RICHARDSON ROTARY SUPPORTS THESE, AND OTHER
ORGANIZATIONS
City of Richardson
From Richardson Rotary Club President – Barry Krause: At the Richardson Rotary Club meeting on July 13, 2009 we will disburse the remaining funds from the 2008-2009 Match-the-Can. The recipient organizations are: Heifer International- $436.40 Methodist Richardson Medical Center- $666.66 Network of Community Ministries- $681.65 Richardson YMCA- $857.65 RISD excellence in Education- $3,277.66 Thank you to all our members for the weekly contributions to Match-the-Can that make our community and the world a better place. During the last few days in June, I had the pleasure and honor of attending three different inductions involving Rotary. Each of these inductions was inspirational, but also humbling. I want to share with you the following comments made during the Rotary International convention in Birmingham England and the induction of John Kenny as the RI president for 2009-2010. Among Mr. Kenny’s remarks were comments regarding the RI motto of “Service Above Self”. He stated that he believes the genesis of this tenet was 2,000 years ago with the story of the Good Samaritan. That in itself is a mighty powerful statement. However, it further hit home with me when the Secretary General of the United Nations addressed the convention during the opening ceremonies and stated how successful the UN’s partnership with Rotary International has been in reducing polio in the world. In 2008 there were 1,633 cases of polio worldwide, including 118 cases in Pakistan, 31 cases in Afghanistan, 552 cases in India, 790 cases in Nigeria. For further information on End Polio Now, go to rotary.org. It is indeed humbling and inspirational to realize our Club is a small cog in a great big wheel called Rotary International. We really do make a difference in this world. SOCIAL NETWORKING
Rotarians help provide service through fellowship, and social networking is one of the many ways Rotarians are connecting online. Visit Rotary International's official social networking pages and join the conversation.
PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
Jackie Barnett has volunteered to become an editor of the Richardson Rotary Bulletin. She will be joining Barry Young and John Moran to help with our award winning Bulletin. Richardson Living Magazine has featured an article about our India project in the July/August edition. All three Richardson Clubs participated in raising $54,000.00 to improve water, sanitation, and educational facilities in Salem, India. The article is can be found on page 10. The public relations team will continue its efforts to increase awareness of our Club’s successful programs and projects.
