• The New York Times reports that sales momentum for retailers slowed in April. “The 19

chains tracked by Thomson Reuters reported a thin 0.8 percent increase in sales at stores

open at least a year, missing the 1.5 percent gain that analysts were expecting.” Read the

• Golf Town, Canada's largest specialty golf retailer, and Golfsmith International Holdings,

Inc. announced on May 14th that they have signed a definitive merger agreement, pursuant

to which Golf Town will acquire Golfsmith, a leading specialty golf retailer in the United

States. Golf Town will acquire Golfsmith for US $6.10 per share in cash. Read the article

• The Wall Street Journal reports that AMC Entertainment Corp. has announced their deal to

be acquired by Dalian Wanda Group, a Chinese conglomerate. “Wanda will pay $2.6

billion for the company, which is currently privately-owned by investors including Apollo

Global Management, Bain Capital, Carlyle Group, CCMP Capital Advisors and Spectrum

Equity Investors.” Read the article here.

• Bed Bath & Beyond announced on May 9th its plans to acquire Cost Plus. Cost Plus

operates as a specialty retailer of casual home furnishings and entertaining products in the

United States. “Under the terms of the deal, Bed Bath & Beyond is offering $22 a share in

cash for Cost Plus, which is more than 22 percent above the company’s closing price.”
