WELCOME WORDS

01

We are delighted to welcome you to the Brückenbauer Summer School 2012 in Barcelona. The Summer School invited 50 practitioners from across Europe who are engaged in civil society organisations active in the field of migration, integration and inclusion. The School serves as a platform to network, to learn, to exchange and to create new project ideas. Our motivation for organising the School is also to connect the Germany based, multi-ethnic and multi-faith network “Forum der Brückenbauer” with colleagues from other European countries to strengthen cross bor-der cooperation and the exchange of knowledge and good practices. The thematic umbrella of the School captures issues of diversity, social cohesion, combating racism and populism and interfaith dialogue. How-ever, the School is designed as a highly interactive event that allows you to propose and bring forward your own topics and ideas. We expect a high level of engagement. The more engaged you are the more contacts, ideas and knowledge you will take home.We placed the Summer School to multicultural Barcelona, that, though it only experienced migration from outside Spain in the last two decades, it already offers good practices towards a inclusive city. The School itself is an example of a multinational partnership in which each partner provided specific contacts and resources. It is in this light we wish you a successful event and a pleasant stay in Barcelona.

CONCEPT AND OBJECTIVES OF THE SCHOOL

We conceptualised the Brückenbauer Summer School as an interactiveand flexible platform that allows participants to individually shape their own agenda and to set their thematic foci according to their professional interests, needs and experiences. In order to foster networking and knowledge building we designed a methodological and process-oriented frame that includes a variety of non-formal methods and tools that will lead participants during the Summer School. These tools allow partici-pants to become owners of the Summer School and they demonstrate their strength when participants are highly engaged. Focus is set on ac-tors, challenges, strategies and visions. As the title suggests, participants will be guided through collective and individual learning experiences. The Summer School aims to empower and to connect practitioners from across Europe, who are engaged in the fields of migration, diversity and inclusion, to combine their knowledge and forces for a more inclusive society in Europe. The Summer School will support a process of:

• BUILDING and sharing knowledge and practical experience on themes, strategies and good-practices.

• DEVELOPING sustainable cooperation and exchange during and after

the Summer School.

• PROMOTING cross-border networking and the development of commonproject ideas.

On an individual level, the Summer School gives participants a chance to present themselves and their work, to encourage active learning and to become more aware of their own resources. Additionally, it aims to strengthen the capacity of participants to better meet the objectives of their own organisation and projects and to empower them to act as multipliers within their own social and professional environment.

As a practitioner working for a more inclusive society…1) … What can I share about my experiences (resources)?

2) … What kind of tools do I want to gain?
