CONSTRUCTION FOCUS JULY 2018 CASF installed a new Board of Directors to be headed by incoming President Jeff Slade at its 68th Annual Installation and Awards Banquet, held June 5, at Pier 66 Rooftop. Slade has served on the CASF Board since 2005. He has chaired numerous committees, including the Craftsmanship Awards, Young Leaders, Digital Communications and Youth Education committees. Slade assumed presidency of the Board for CASF’s 2018-19 fiscal year, effective July 1, 2018. “Jeff is a seasoned professional who will build on CASF’s rich legacy as South Florida’s leading association representing commercial construction,” said CASF Executive Director Remy Mackowski. Slade currently serves as Senior Vice President of Operations for Miller Construction Company. Slade joined Miller Construction in 1998 after graduating from the University of Florida M.E. Rinker School of Building Construction. He holds the distinction of being the only person ever to have been awarded a CASF scholarship and subsequently been elected to chair the CASF Board of Directors. Slade was sworn in with the entire 2018-19 Board, which included five members newly elected by the CASF general membership. These were: Gary Arkin, Owner & President, Premier Stoneworks Frank Frione, CEO, GFA International Mike Fee, President, Lotspeich Co. of Florida Randy Farmer , Key Account Manager, CEMEX Brian Mueller , Executive Vice President & Co-Owner, Southeast Mechanical Contractors All five new Board members were elected for a two-year term. Arkin is serving his first term as a CASF director, while the other four were re-elected as popular incumbents. They join sitting members of the CASF Board, which, in addition to Slade, include: Russell Anderson, Vice President, Preconstruction & Procurement, Turnberry Associates Mark Butters, Vice President of Construction & CFO, Butters Construction & Development Jessica Chen, Project Executive, Suffolk Construction Justin Lord, President, Central Broward Construction Sid Miller , President & CEO, Miller Glass & Glazing Rick Schuerger , Project Executive, John Moriarty and Associates of Florida Maribeth Sitkowski , Business Development Specialist, Balfour Beatty Construction Mindy Szarowitz, Director of Business Development, Baker Concrete Construction Alex Smith, Vice President, MOSS Doug Wallace, Vice President of Preconstruction, Stiles Construction Company The CASF BOD also contains two non-voting advisors. They are Legal Advisor Heath Eskalyo, a Principal Partner and CFO with Kelly Kronenberg, and Financial Advisor Tyler Johnson, a Manager with Keefe McCullough As President of the CASF Board, Slade will chair a 2018-19 Executive Committee that will include First Vice President Sid Miller, Second Vice President Doug Wallace, Secretary/Treasurer Justin Lord, Immediate Past President Mindy Szarowitz and Past President Russell Anderson. More than 300 people took over Strikes at Boca on June 27th for CASF’s Ninth Annual Bowling Challenge. CASF hosted 47 teams of six bowlers each vying for top team and individual honors. The Hypower team finished in first place and team member Dale Hussey captured the Highest Individual Score award by rolling a 227. The Proietto Companies team earned second place, while the Lotspeich Co. of Florida team captured both third place and the Best Bowling Shirt award. CASF’s event partners for the 2018 Bowling Challenge were Cayman Manufacturing, FMA Construction Inc., HITT, Lank Oil Co., Marsh and McLennan Agency, Benson, Mucci & Weiss, and John Moriarty of Fla.
