Handling Coaches• Be respectful at all times.

– "Neither Seek Nor Avoid"-What one says-or doesn't say can often be the difference between a smooth flowing game and a game in which the end result is a postgame trip to the laptop to fill out an ejection report.

– Top officials use technicals or ejections as a last resort while others use them as a weapon.– Don't go into pregame and make a promise. If you tell them your going to call

handchecking and you don't call the first one, you're setting yourself up for failure. Let the game develop and see what happens.

• Give coaches your ear. Let them know you have heard them.• If you respond, keep it short and to the point. Do not get into discussions. The

more you speak, the greater the danger of being trapped.• Use the tools the rule book gives us to manage coaches:

• Take the ball away• Conduct foul-man down for 30 seconds• Unsportsmanlike conduct 1-3 minute non-releasable• Ejection

Exit Responsibilities

• At the conclusion of your game;• Stand at mid-field and observe the teams returning to

their benches.• Once this has occurred, leave the field as a crew.
