Sales Management CommentsI’ve written a lot about the merits of regional cooperation and how it provides the infrastructure to the fall Simmental sales in many of my sales management comments this fall. All the other editorials were based on marketing responsibly provincially but this is a magnified case of a region within the province. All the components to the former Calgary Roundup have mailboxes erected south of the city limits of Calgary. I commend them for not moving camp north into other proven Simmental markets, but take a stand to grow their market share in an area that has cried for more of a Simmental influence in recent times. The ‘Roundup’ events of the past have always had a valid bull sale element and this will stay status quo. The ‘coming 2-year-old’ group are rare to find and often requested, this being one of the few times between now and April that a good quality group will be offered for sale. Two year old Simmental bulls will not be available like there are in some of the other breeds so please take this opportunity seriously. Only the best bull calves from each respective breeding program will round out the bull sale group. The females have traditionally sold to both commercial and registered breeders. They will be a blend of Fullblood, Red & Black Simmental capable of being replacements to carry forward motion to any commercial or registered herds. We invite all to join us in this venture of Simmental pro-motion in a non traditional area with strong British breed based roots and assist the breeders who are marketing your breed to the region. All of you will be rewarded as this rap-idly growing market-share region advances. We bought her dam from the Janzen’s last year at the National Trust Sale, and were hoping for a heifer, so we could build on this cow family. On the bottom side of her mamma’s papers there are 4 generations of Janzen breeding. We all talk about building cow families with longevity, well here is a heifer that’s stacked with it. She’s dark red with a little white dot on her head and above her muzzle. She’s as quiet as a kitten and just waiting for someone to put a halter on her. She would be a great junior project, and my kids are dearly going to miss this one.

Her sire has become very popular lately, and is one of the most used Red Bulls of the last few years. As one astute commercial cattleman told me “She’s a bull making machine, and call me when she has a bull”. Her dam has the best udder in the herd and is walking on an amazing set of feet and legs. It seems that more and more Red breeders are introducing the Fleckvieh genetics back into their cattle as their bull buyers are demanding cattle with better milk and performance.
