BC Chamber Policy NewsProvincial Government unveiled its 2015 Budget on February 17th. The BC Chamber was a participant in theprovincial 'lock‐up' in Victoria. This allowed us time to review the Budget in detail and prepare a detailed analysis ofthe measures and its implication for our members. As you know, the Minister of Finance has announced that thesurplus will be higher than previously forecast. BC Chamber Public Affairs Update ‐ Prime Minister announces tax reductions for LNG projectsPrime Minister Stephen Harper was in B.C. this week, announcing the federal government's intention to promote LNGprojects in B.C. through changes to the tax system. The BC Chamber and the Canadian Chamber of Commercehighlighted the importance of this tax policy change in a recent letters to the Minister of Finance Joe Oliver. B.C.Premier Christy Clark said the change will make B.C. a more attractive jurisdiction to invest for LNG proponents. Shesaid B.C. is already more competitive than Australia; these incentives will help increase B.C.'s position againstcompetition from the U.S., specifically Washington, California and Oregon. The federal government anticipates themove will reduce corporate tax revenue by 'less than $50‐million' over the next five years. Read more
