CONICYT – BECAS CHILE SCHOLARSHIPS TO STUDY ABROAD

ABOUT THE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

The CONICYT – Becas Chile program seeks to improve Chile’s global competitiveness by strengthening its human capital development and improving the scope and quality of education, scientific and technological research and innovation. The scholarship focuses on five major areas:

n Social Sciences

n Education

n Engineering and Technology

n Humanities

n Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences

WHAT THE SCHOLARSHIP COVERS

The CONICYT– Becas Chile Scholarship for Master and PhD students includes the following benefits:

n Tuition and academic fees required by the university

n An additional 10% of the monthly allowance to each scholar, for his/her accompanying spouse

n A one-way air ticket, economy class, from the nearest airport of the scholar’s place of origin, to the place of study, for the scholar and accompanying spouse and children, if appropriate

n A one-way air ticket, economy class, from the place of study back to Chile, for the scholar and accompanying spouse and children, if appropriate

n A monthly allowance, renewed each year (contingent upon academic performance) for up to two years for Masters, and for up to four years for PhDs from start of the program

n An additional 5% of the monthly allowance for any accompanying child under 18 years old

n A one-time allowance to cover settlement expenses ($500 USD)

n A one-time relocation allowance ($500 USD)

n A yearly allowance for books and/or materials ($300 USD)

n An $800 USD allowance per year to cover health insurance.

n Associated language course benefits, if appropriate.

HOW THE RANKINGS WORK The OECD Sub-Area Rankings ranks a list of foreign institutions according to their level of scientific productivity in the respective OECD Sub-Area.

Depending on where the institution is located within each ranking, it receives a score between 1 and 5 points, according to the scale used by CONICYT. This score will be used in scholarship competitions abroad (Becas Chile) to assess the evaluation criterion.

Academic institutions ranked in the top 100 will receive a score equal to 5 points.
