Due to the outbreak of WWII, Saint Louis was closed in December 1941.

Due to the carpet bombing of the city, all the school buildings were destroyed in March 15, 1945.

In June 1945, Saint Louis reopened and resumed classes in army tents and saw the resurgence of an increased enrolment.

In 1948, Fr. William Brasseur, CICM, became Prefect of the Mountain Province.

In 1951, CICM took over the Saint Louis Boys’ High, while the ICM Sisters retained the Saint Louis Girls’ High.

In 1952, Saint Louis School became Saint Louis College (SLC), with Fr. Gerard Decaestecker, CICM, as first rector.

Fr. Gerard Jerome Joseph Jean Decaestecker was born in Belgium on February 4, 1907, the year when the first CICM missionaries arrived in the Philippines. He is an intellectual of high caliber, obtained a PhD in Philosophy from the Gregorian University in Rome in 1930.

Fr Decaestecker gave the Saint Louis motto “Sapientia aedificat,” (Wisdom builds), when he assumed the first rectorship of SLC in 1952 until 1954.
