Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church May 8, 2016
CONGRATULATIONS! On Tuesday April 12, and Wednesday, April 13, a total of 108 young people of Our Lady of Victory Parish were confirmed in the Holy Spirit, by Bishop Walter Hurley. With the guidance of their families, catechists, parish staff, and the prayers of this faith community they are now fully initiated members of the Catholic Church. As vibrant members of today’s Church, we invite them to enter into more deeply the movement of the Holy Spirit within them and share their gifts in ministry and mission with our parish community and the world at large. Their enthusiasm, energy and sense of commitment are a gift to us all!

OUR LADY OF VICTORY PAGE 4 NORTHVILLE, MICHIGAN
Christians have been praising God in prayer and song for centuries. One of the earliest hymns that we have, besides Gregorian chant, is “A Hymn of Glory Let Us Sing” which was written in the 7th or 8th century by Bede the Venerable. It was discovered in an 11th century manuscript that was later translated from Latin. The hymn describes the events of the Ascension and praises
Jesus, who once again becomes one with the Father and the Holy Spirit. St. Bede was an English monk and having studied most of his life
was a remarkable scholar and is known as the “Father of English Learning.” His greatest contribution was the work Ecclesiastical History of the English People which describes the arrival of Christianity to England. Bede’s contribution to hymnody is very minor with 11 or 12 hymns to his name. However, “A Hymn of Glory” has endured and been translated into many languages and published in numerous hymnals.
Happy Mother’s day to all the women of our parish and may God bless each one with his love and grace. Today, our Children’s Choir concludes their ministry for the year. The choir this past year has been outstanding!! Thank you to all the children and parents for their wonderful dedication to the Music Ministry.

Our Lady of Victory School News
Greetings from the School Office Mr. Greg Carnacchi, Interim School Administrator
Are you aware that Our Lady of Victory is in a very important part of the Reaccreditation Process? OLV is an accredited school, but like all schools needs to go through this ongoing process that leads to Reaccreditation. The accrediting agency is the Michigan Non-Public School Accrediting Association (MNSAA) which is the accrediting division of the Michigan Association of Non-Public Schools (MANS). All the schools in the Archdiocese of Detroit are members of this organization. The Accreditation Process is seven years long and in the sixth year of the process, a school begins a Self-Study to examine where they are and where they need to go so as to continually improve in being an effective Catholic school. The Self-Study is well underway. The Self-Study examines thirteen standards and about 70 corresponding benchmarks that cover every aspect and area that needs to be considered when looking at school improvement. The staff and administration from the school, as well as, the pastor and the parish financial staff have spent many hours evaluating the status of these areas and finding, collecting and digitizing documentation that support and prove their analysis.
The Self-Study process takes about a year to assess yourself and accumulate the evidence to support your results. All results/evidence are now required to be electronic. It is this portion of the process that is most challenging because it is a new requirement and we did not collect data in that manner in the past. So, we now must create new ways of gathering the evidence electronically on an ongoing basis.
After the Self-Study is written, edited and evidence gathered, an Accreditation Site-team visit is set up with the AOD and a date established. This visit takes place in year seven of the process. Thirty days prior to the visit, the school submits their Self-study to the visiting team who review the study and the corresponding evidence. The Chairperson of the Site-team comes before the visit to check the Compliance List. This list is all the federal, state and AOD requirements and evidence of compliance.
When the visit is complete and the recommendation for reaccreditation made, the school uses the identified areas of the self-study to guide school improvement. The self-study is reviewed and updated regularly as the improvements are completed. At the end of each year of the accreditation process, the progress is reviewed by the accrediting agency (MNSAA). There is a visit made in the third year of the process to check on the Compliance List. At the end of the seven years the process begins again.
It is rewarding to see everyone’s commitment to the process and all those involved are making good progress. We hope this summary helps the school and parish communities understand the process of Accreditation a little better and all the work that goes into it.

Happy Mother’s Day!
The life of a mother looks nothing like what you see in advertisements. Children neatly dressed sitting in rap attention with a perfectly dressed and coifed mother. Today’s television shows are more realistic yet they can be overblown, as well.
The simple matter is there is no hard fast rule of what motherhood should look like. Sometimes it is serene, more often than not fast paced, filled with multiple decisions to be made simultaneously. Multitasking was invented by mothers!
Often mothers are exhausted at the end of the day and feel at a loss as to how to make sense of it all. Our faith helps us with this! By inviting Jesus into your daily life you will find his companionship, guidance, and support as well as some homespun inspiration. How to do this? Try Prayer whether it is in the shower, when you first open our eyes in the morning or one of those stolen moments during the day. Make it a priority and watch how just a few moments of quiet every day can lead to a greater sense of Jesus present to you!
A special prayer children can say for their Mom on this their special day!
God our Father, today we thank you for one of your special gifts to us, our Mother. Thank You for the love she shares with us in so many ways. We thank her for the warmth she gives our home, for the cuts and bruises she makes well, for the ideas she gives us when we don’t have anything to do, for the ways she makes peace when we are mean to each other. We thank her for seeing good in us that we don’t see ourselves. Help us to love her as she loves us. And keep her close to you always. We ask this in the Name of Jesus your Beloved Son. Amen!
From “Prayer After Nine Rainy Days and Other Family Prayers”, by Pat Corrick Hinton, Winston Press, Inc., Minneapolis, MN. C
Thank you to all mothers, step mothers grandmothers, aunts, and the many who have the gift of loving like a mother for taking on God’s call to be him to others!
Open House for the Atrium of the Christ the Good Shepherd Preschool Program Next Sunday, May 15, we will have an open house for
families interested in their child participating in the Christ the Good Shepherd Preschool Program.
Our catechists will be on hand to answer your questions and allow the children to view the many materials waiting in the Atrium next year for them to explore as they learn in age appropriate ways about the liturgy, prayer, the liturgical year, sacraments and so much more.
Many of the materials in the Atrium are handmade and aid in the child’s deepening understanding of the meaning of the most essential beliefs of our faith. It is a beautiful program in which Christ is the teacher and Catechist and child alike share in the learning and
listening to Him as he works with in them.
Please plan on joining us after you enjoy the Pancake breakfast in the Family Center!

MINUTE
CSA Weekend Our Holy Father, Pope Francis, has
invited all Catholics to renew their personal relationships with our Savior, as “the joy of the Gospel fills the hearts and lives of all who encounter Jesus.” In this spirit, the theme of the 2016 Catholic Services Appeal is Celebrate the Joy of the Gospel.
This weekend is CSA Weekend, which marks the beginning of our annual Catholic Services Appeal. Gifts to the CSA make possible a wealth of ministries, programs, and services that touch the lives of thousands throughout the Archdiocese of Detroit each day. No one parish could provide all of these blessings, and benefit so many.
The CSA is a pledge program, which allows you to spread your gift over several months. Please prayerfully consider the most generous gift possible to support the 2016 Catholic Services Appeal. For more information about this and other CSA-funded ministries, programs, and services, please go to www.AOD.org.
2016 Catholic service appeal This year’s CSA theme, Celebrate the Joy of the Gospel, is adapted from Pope Francis’ Apostolic Exhortation, Evangelii Gaudium, and is deepened with ancillary themes. Our Holy Father has declared this to be a Jubilee Year of Mercy—the Scriptures are filled with examples of people faithful to the Word of God showing love and its attendant mercy to those in need of comfort and sustenance. And here in the Archdiocese, we have launched the Unleash the Gospel push toward Synod 16 with its promise of renewing our energy for evangelization. Gifts to the CSA make possible a wealth of ministries, programs, and services that touch the lives of thousands of Catholics throughout the Archdiocese of Detroit each day. No one parish, on its own, could provide all of the blessings that benefit so many. The 2016 CSA pledge and prayer cards, along with a letter from Fr. Denis, have been mailed out. This year the Archdiocese of Detroit has set our quota at $245,846. Please prayerfully consider the most generous gift possible to support the 2016 CSA.

PRISON MINISTRYby June Clark
My Spiritual Visitor The first words that come to mind are WOW, I am so blessed. In 1998, when my
best friend would tell me about her spiritual visit I could feel the joy coming from her and I wanted some of that, too. For me that meant facing fear and opening up to a stranger and accepting God again.
At first, my fears kept me from seeing my faith but as time passed providing kindness, compassion and love taught me that "where I live" is not as important. And that I am loved just as I am. To try and imagine the last seventeen years without me in her life would have made for a much darker place.Ghandi said, ”Be the change you want to see in the world."
My volunteer is a shining example of God's love and compassion. I am truly blessed to have her as my spiritual advisor

Fifth Sunday Rosary Program Sunday, May 29, after the 9:30 a.m. Mass
In his apostolic letter Rosarium Virginis Mariae, Pope St. John Paul II quotes St. Louis de Montfort reminding us that, “Our entire perfection consists in being conformed, united
and consecrated to Jesus Christ. Now, since Mary is of all creatures the one most conformed to Jesus Christ, it follows that among all devotions that which most consecrates and conforms a soul to our Lord is devotion to Mary, His Holy Mother…” The rosary is one of the simplest and dearest devotional prayers available to all of us. Once again, the Knights of Columbus will gather to pray the rosary as they continue their 2015-2016 initiative Building the Domestic Church: The Family Fully Alive. The Fifth Sunday Rosary program, offered to inspire and demonstrate greater devotion to Mary, the Mother of Jesus, continues at Our Lady of Victory! Similar to the previous rosaries, a one-page handout with all of the rosary prayers will be made available, as well as extra rosaries for those who want to participate. Please join the Knights of Columbus on Sunday, May 29, to recite the rosary in the church immediately following the 9:30 a.m. Mass. ALL are welcome!
