CONFUSING SIGNALS TO OUR TEENAGERS
CONFUSING SIGNALS TO OUR TEENAGERS
I got some information about a Leadership Seminar in Australia where the photograph was as shown here
http://www.sikhyouthaustralia.com/images/uploads/Brochure_2009L.pdf
We end up giving a message that ALL is acceptable. Organizers should NOT have had this Daljit "Singh".
CONFUSING SIGNALS TO OUR TEENAGERS
What message do we give to our teenagers when we allow Jagjit Singh to be on Stage ? He was there at Nanded Saheb 300 Sala Diwas
– No SIKH organization is bothered about this at all. Yes if he was a Sindhi or a Non-Sikh – Most welcome.
But a Sikh who cut his hair should NOT be promoted by Gurdwaras
All Shabads that he sings are only based on his Ghazals. Not one is based on Nirdharit Raags
CONFUSING SIGNALS TO OUR TEENAGERS
Analjit Singh has cropped is beard. Is that the only sign they feel denotes “modernity”.

Modernityonly when you
cut your beard !!
There are Gursikhs all over the World. We need to showcase those to our Teenagers
NO NO NO
Kartar Singh ThakralIt would be easy to mistake Kartar Singh Thakral for just another conservative businessman. Except for his blue turban, the shy, slightly stooped executive is at first glance about as distinctive-looking as a bowl of rice. A thin, soft-spoken 63-year-old, he exudes caution and deference.
Kartar Singh Thakral is no corporate wallflower; he is one of Singapore's most daring entrepreneurs. And the Thakral group he heads is no ordinary family business; it is a dynamic, multibillion-dollar empire-one of the Sikh world's biggest--- spanning two dozen countries and employing 8,000 people.
Thakral does NOT trade in Meat & Liquor
VISON STATEMENT
To help create Modern Day (Sabat Soorat) Sikh role-
models who have a passion for Work and Sikh Values
both !
Vision is the art of seeing the invisible.
LOGO
TARGET AUDIENCE
Intelligent Teenagers thru age 15 to 30 yrs
(Right from Schools -> Colleges -> University -> Jobs -> Marriage)
FACTWe are almost doing Murti-Puja of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Jee.
Hardly any teenager reads what is inside. So obviously enough, they have no passion / Love for SGGS.
Over 2 / 3 sessions, I first teach them how to do Veechar. Then get them started. I have started to sign up youth for doing Sahej Path.
11 children in the age group of 14 to 23 have started to do Sahej Path on Internet
METHOD

O Nanak, impurity cannot be removed in this way; it is washed away only by spiritual wisdom. ||1||
By Understanding the logics contained in Sri Guru Granth Sahib Jee thus creating a strong sense of Respect for it so that they feel Proud of being a Sikh. - Proud of being Unique (Sabat Soorat)!
“The key here is to keep your company aligned with the speed and nature of changes externally. Second, is to keep your culture aligned with strong values, but adapting to change. Look forward, not at the rear-view mirror,” – Ram Charan

Look ahead; don't turn your face backwards.
Ghar Ki Murgi Daal Barabar !!
WE HAVE NO VALUE OF SGGS
#1Method
Scientific approach to understanding Sri Guru Granth Sahib Jee.
This can happen by teaching young minds to do Veechar by themselves.
AdvantageMove away from doing Murti Pooja and all that
associated Hindu things that are holding sway on Sikhs in general.
#2Method
Talks by Young (Sabat Soorat) Sikhs, who are already in a career and how they managed
both Sansar & Sikhi Values at the same time. (Eg. Ravinder Singh of Akhar Soh, Inderjeet Singh and so on. We can also invite Young Sikhs who come from overseas for a holiday. – They can give
a Global Perspective and open up the minds of our Indian Youngsters.)
AdvantageSuch talks once a month or every 15 days, will create an impression in young minds that they can also do
this. Also it will embolden the speaker to move higher up in life.
#3 Method
Sabat Soorat Sikhs above 30 yrs to act as mentors. Those already in a career and wanting to guide / help youngsters, can enrol as Mentors. Meetings with such
mentors can happen every fortnight. (enrolment guidelines will be fairly strict since it is neither a question of a fee nor do we want masses. We will look for
QUALITY)
AdvantageThis will give confidence to the youngsters that there
is someone hand-holding them at all times. Build a Sikh Brotherhood for Teenagers.
#4Method
Give Loans / assistance for Study. Those who enrol as members could avail of Study
loans under some conditions.
#5Method
Give Entrepreneurial Loans. Those who enrol as members could avail of business
loans under some conditions.
#6Method
Offer JOBS in Organizations run by GURSIKHSThose who enrol as members could avail of this Job
Matching facility.
One of the conditions could be to give 1% of the Salary as donation.
#7Method
Build a website for internal use. Those who enrol as members could search for
mentors in - A specific field,
- A specific company, - A specific city
etc.
Fortnightly meeting plan
1.We jointly do one shabad by girls and one shabad by boys.
2.Shabad Veechar by one or 2 children : That will take away the stage fright and we could slowly create leaders here. It will help in times of Interviews etc.
3.Talk by someone 4.Q & A on Sikhi matters5.Mentor meetings.6.Such talks once a month or every 15 days, will create
an impression in young minds that they can also do this.
General Points1. We will welcome sponsors – who are Sabat Soorat themselves.2. Advertisements on this website will only be entertained from Sikh
organizations who match our criterion.3. No Langar will be served. (Lets try and get out of this Gurdwara-for-
langar syndrome)4. Such Seminars / talks should be held outside the Gurdwaras (in some
auditorium) to give a ‘profesional’ look and to cut all kind of politics.5. We strictly don’t want any Raagi / Kathakar etc. 6. All speakers should wear shirt and trousers – Normal office going attire.
(No Kurtas etc.)7. 2/3rd of the Auditorium seats will be strictly reserved for Sabat-Soorat
Teenagers.8. Parents / Others (Cut Beards etc) will be no more than 1/3rd capacity9. Finally we wish to have such chapters in all major cities in India and
Abroad.
Name of this Organization
Several names have been suggested. Some are listed below for your consideration1.Smart Sikhs2.Young Sikh Leaders 3.Sikhs Together 4.Sikh Icons 5.Young Icons6.Sikhs Unified 7.Together we Stand 8.Together we Lead
Please indicate your choice in your response. We will poll and decide.
Implementation Mechanics
Each center could video-record the presentation and that could be shared by other centres. That will create a uniform transmission of message all over.
Or we can use a web-based tool www.megameeting.com / www.webex.com (I have attended such presentations)
There are Gurmat Camps, but then no regular follow-up with the youth (No interaction).
Place Capacity Charges
Nehru Centre Auditorium (Mr. Tawde) 220 7,000 (4 hours) 14,000 full day
S P Jain Auditorium, Andheri(W) 300 10,000 for 4 hours
St Andrews Auditorium, Bandra (W) 811 22,000 for 4 hours
Others are already doing something for YOUTH.
We, sikhs are left behind.
SIKH
The MONAS are also creating the confusion since long. We better start atleast now.
MY INSPIRATION
END GOALThere cannot be an endpoint to this process.
However, we would he happy to have 10 or 20 (Sabat Soorat) IAS officers who could change the direction of Govt Decision
making.
10 or 20 Industrialists of the type of the stature of Narayan Murthy, etc.
We know nothing is going to happen in a hurry – it will take 15-20 years or more. But, lets do something.
Something different than what our elders did for the past 50 years and Sikhi reached such sorry state in India.
Doing something on my own. Now is the time to take things to a higher platform.
