Since QINSy Survey is a Micros oft Windows bas ed s oftware package, i t has a s tandard MSWindows look and fee l . Th is m eans that m enu options

and buttons operate the s am e way as other packages running under Windows .

In m os t windows , us ing the right m ous e button on a part o f the s creen opens a m enu conta in ing options re levant to that part o f the window. The

s am e options can a ls o be found in the m ain m enu bar located at the top of the window.

Mos t windows can be res ized by s im ply dragging the corners whi le ho ld ing down the le ft m ous e button. Windows that cannot be res ized wi l l e i ther

have a greyed out m axim ize button or none at a l l .

Structure of QINSy

QINSy Survey is a m odular bu i l t program , which m eans that i t is not one program , but a s u i te o f appl ications l inked together.

The entry po int for QINSy is a program cal led the Cons ole. From th is Cons ole a l l o ther program s are s tarted.

Database

The bas e of each s urvey in QINSy is the Tem plate Databas e. This is created wi th the Databas e Setup program s tarted from the Setup option in the

Cons ole.

This Tem plate Databas e conta ins a l l in fo about the configuration and s ettings to be us ed during the s urvey. When record ing a copy is m ade of th is

tem plate databas e and raw data is added, s o both raw data and the configuration and s ettings us ed to acqui re that data are s tored together in one

s ing le databas e (fi le ). The advantage of s uch a s ing le databas e conta in ing a l l in form ation be longing to a certa in datas et is that s ettings can be

changed on a fi le -by-fi le bas is wi thout a ffecting the overa l l pro ject s ettings m ade during the s tart o f the pro ject.

Project

QINSy Survey a l lows the us er to s tore data on pro ject bas is . The Manage Pro jects option in the Cons ole a l lows the us er to m anage the pro jects .

As s oon as a new pro ject (fo lder) in QINSy is s tarted a num ber of s ub fo lders wi l l be created. Each s ub fo lder conta ins data of a s peci fic type. QINSy

wi l l autom atica l ly s earch for data in that s peci fic s ub fo lder once a pro ject has been s e lected.

In form ation fi les that are re levant for a num ber of pro jects (e .g. chart data or ves s el s hape fi les ) can be s tored in a genera l com m on fi les fo lder. Th is

com m on fi les fo lder can be s et from the Cons ole.

Data Flow

It depends on the type of s urvey conducted which m odules of QINSy wi l l be us ed. The data flow s chem e below g ives an overview of the m os t

extended us e of QINSy:


Console

The icons in the top ha l f o f the window are a lways pres ent. Thes e buttons repres ent the various s tages of a s urvey. The icons have the fo l lowing

functions :

Setup - Th is appl ication is us ed to configure the tem plate databas e for the pro ject and to activate a certa in databas e or tem plate . Us e th is

appl ication to change for exam ple the geodetic param eters , ves s el s hape, s ens or I/O or o ther parts o f the s ys tem configuration.

Online - Th is button wi l l s tart the Contro l ler wi th the s e lected tem plate. Th is tem plate is us ed as the bas e for the raw data co l lection.

Replay - Th is appl ication a l lows the us er to change the databas e configuration and rep lay the data. Another option is to analyze the raw data

that was gathered during the s urvey on a s ens or bas is .

Processing - The Proces s ing Manager is us ed to proces s the co l lected x,y,z data, e .g . rem ove s p ikes , apply tida l in form ation, ca lcu la te

volum es , p lo tting, e tc.

There are s evera l program s that are norm al ly us ed on a regular bas is . Thes e are:

Line Database Manager - Us e th is too l to create and edi t l ines , targets and routes .

I/O tester - The I/O tes ter d is p lays the raw data that is rece ived on the PC com m unication ports .

I/O Driver Editor - Wi th th is too l the us er can create h is own driver to read an ASCII s tring.

Generic Layout Editor - Wi th th is too l the us er can define a d is p lay, an on l ine Output String , a log Fi le or Export from the databas e fi le .

HASPLoader - Wi th th is too l the us er can s ee what is program m ed on h is dongle and upgrade i t.

EncAdministrator - Wi th th is too l e lectron ic navigation charts in the 000-form at can be converted in to QNC-fi les wi th can be d is p layed in the

Navigation d is p lay and in QLOUD.

Remote Display Controller - The Contro l ler can put a l l the on l ine data on a loca l network; then the Rem ote Dis p lay Contro l ler can d is p lay th is

data on every pc connected to th is network.

HASP Loader

The QINSy dongle is a l icens e for the s oftware. Severa l Add Ons are avai lab le . The perm is s ion of the dongle a l lows certa in program s to run.

The HASPLoader is a program that is us ed to program your HASP dongle or when i t is a l ready program m ed, to s how the us er which m odules are

enabled on that dongle and unti l which date the dongle is enabled.


When there is a tim e tag on the dongle, then there is an Expi ra tion Date. When the us er has bought a l icens e, the expi ra tion date is Never. The

Support and Maintenance Schem e ind icates unti l which date you can download updates from the QPS webs i te and receive s upport from the QINSy

s upport des k.

To update the dongle pres s the Upgrade button and copy and pas te the received 256 character upgrade code in to th is window and pres s OK.

Upgrading a dongle takes only a few s econds .


Project Folder

QINSy Survey a l lows the us er to s tore data on pro ject bas is . As s oon as a new pro ject (fo lder) in QINSy is s tarted a num ber of s ub fo lders wi l l be

created. Each s ub fo lder conta ins data of a s peci fic type. QINSy wi l l autom atica l ly s earch for data in that s peci fic s ub fo lder once a pro ject has been

s elected.

The s ubfo lders created are:

Databas e Tem plate databas es wi th the Pro ject s ettings and Configuration as wel l as the Databas es wi th logged data. ( .db)

W hen a database has been analysed, a copy of the database is made and stored as (.filt.db)

Dtm Data DTM data fi les s e lected in the Ses s ion Setup.

The qpd fi les wi l l be s tored in a s ub fo lder wi th the nam e of the ves s el a fter the fi les are loaded in to the Proces s ing Manager.

DxfToQxf Chart data in the DXF form at (e .g. AutoCAD) or the QXF form at which is converted wi th the DXF Convertor.

Export Data that is exported from a proces s ing s es s ion to another form at l ike ASCII.

Geoid The location for the river l ines m odel as created by the Geoid Model Uti l i ty.

Graphics Folder to s tore s creen captures or GeoTIFF im ages .

GridData The Sounding Grid fi les created wi th the Sounding Grid Uti l i ty.

Im port Im port data can be s tored here.

L ineData The l ine databas es created wi th the L ine Databas e Manager. (* .pro)

LogFi les Logfi les created whi le running the Alert D is p lay or when us ing the Man Over Board option (* .txt) Or the Generic Logging option

Cl ick on the 'Manage Pro jects ' button to open the pro ject fo lder window in which a l l pro jects are l is ted. Us e the Manage button to add or

rem ove pro ject fo lders from the l is t. Us e the New button to create a new pro ject and s e lect the fo lder that is created.

A pro ject that has been copied onto the hard d is k can be s e lected us ing the Manage button and s e lecting the Add Exis ting Pro ject option.


Common fi les folder

In form ation fi les that are re levant for a num ber of pro jects (e .g. chart data or ves s el s hape fi les ) can be s tored in a com m on fi les fo lder. Th is

com m on fi les fo lder can be s et from the Cons ole us ing the fo l lowing s teps :

1. Cl ick on the 'fo lders ' button in the Cons ole

2. Select a com m on fi les fo lder us ing the Brows e button

3. Enable the fi le types , that s hould be us ed in the com m on fi les fo lder.

Shortcuts

A s hortcut to Windows Explorer exis ts in the Toolbar o f the Cons ole:

Cl ick on to open Windows Explorer and acces s the m ain d i rectory of the current pro ject.

C l ick on to acces s the s e lected com m on fi les fo lder.
