Conflict was in Sri Lanka

This was the Asias longest modern war in the history. Its about 25 years conflict, between Sri

Lankan government and Tamil tiger rebels, fighting for a separate home land. Asia's longest modern

war has its roots in ethnic tension between the Buddhist Sinhalese majority and the mainly Hindu

Tamil minority. As Sri Lankan I know this matter was a fatal issue to peace in Sri Lanka. Nearly

80,000-100,000 were killed by this war. And over 1 million mines were laid. And its also caused to

born thousand of child soldiers.

When we try to find out the origin of this conflict, we have to go back to the British colonial age.

When the time flowing, Sri Lankan wanted have the political independence from Britain. In 1948 Sri

Lankan eventually granted independence by British after peaceful negotiations. Disagreements

between Sinhalese and Tamils were start at this first post-independence constitution. After the

election in 1936, Lanka Sama Samaja party members demanded the replacement of English as the

official language by Sinhala and Tamil. But in 1944, J.R. Jayawardene moved in the State Council that

Sinhala should replace English as the official language. In 1956 S. W. R. D. Bandaranaike was the

prime minister in Sri Lanka. He told that Sinhala must be the first language. These words cause to

start riots in Sri Lanka. Actually this matter was the main reason to start this conflict. At the

beginning its only showing a political matter. But eventually it turns in to a conflict.

When this matter growing, its reached to the highest. Its persuading young Tamils to stand against

Sinhalese (against the government). They called them (few people from Tamils) selves as Liberation

tigers of Tamil Elam (LTTE) under Prabhakaran. They were again and again asking for a separate land

for Tamils from Sri Lanka (North and East in Sri Lanka). But the government never agreed with them.

Government told that You can live in Sri Lanka as other nations in this country under our

government, but every time LTTE (Tamils) rejected Sri Lanka governments opinion. At this time

LTTE tried to get the attention of world, they were publishing about Sri Lanka government. Like

Government never stand for Tamils, Soldiers in North and East sides (most of these sides civilians

were Tamils) hurting Tamil people and etc. After these headlines published, they got what they

wanted. Tamil politicians in Tamilnadu (a state in south India) were interfering about this matter.

They blamed at Sri Lanka government. And they agreed to LTTE, that they will help them. And they

did as they told; they were supporting LTTE, from financially to weaponry. At last Government start

to force the LTTE when they receiving funds. While these things are happening, Sri Lanka confronts

the worst thing. Sinhalese and other nations in Sri Lanka called Tamils as Terrorists, and Tamils called

Sinhalese as their blood enemies.

Finally battle started, In July 23

1983. LTTE start the battle by destroying a SL army truck. 13 SLarmy soldiers were dead from that incident. Government understand the situation and took the only

solution they can take. Government officially announced, to force the LTTE. LTTE wasnt satisfied

from only killing soldiers, they killed Sinhalese who lived in villages, women, children, elders, even

babies. And SL armies faced a big a problem, they couldnt find, who were the terrorists, and

villagers, because terrorist also dressed as villagers. When the terrorists shoot at the armies, they

have to open fire, because of that big amount of innocent Tamil were dead. Step by step this conflict

was the biggest problem to the government. They increased percentage of soldiers and military

power. Government exported new weapons. Mean time LTTE did the same they collected big

amount of money from the Tamils who lived in other countries. And they also exported new

weapons to Sri Lanka, and they design them. Finally they reached their best; they attacked to SL

army and innocent civilians by aeroplanes and suicide bombers.

At the end, government fed up with this conflict, some major countries cut off the subsidies which

given to Sri Lanka. Hundreds of thousands innocent people were dying. Billions of properties were

mashed in a blink every day. Majority of income to the government had to spend on this conflict. But

they never give up the country to terrorists. In other hand, the final days of battle, government put

his entire power against LTTE. Tigers (LTTE) lost big amount from his army, and lost their land they

captured. And step by step foreign interfering about this matter was stopped. Prabhakaran and his

cadres were helpless. Finally SL armies defeated the tigers in 19th

may 2009.

Now the time has come to ignore the bad things happened in the past and be care to not to happen

them again. As the first step, government offer the Member of Parliament to selected Tamil

politicians. Now Tamils can speak their problems in parliament and they can find the solution for

them. And government took action to spread the knowledge, and develop the north and east. And

the cadres who give up in the battle and after conducted to rehabilitation.

In the present Sinhalese, Tamils, Christians and all other nations in Sri Lanka working together to rise

again, as in the history. Like a phoenix. Happy end after 30 years conflict.
