Sister Mary Hope Called to Eternal Life Sister Mary Hope Schenk, 83, entered eternal life on October 30, 2016. She taught special education at Ka-lida elementary from 1967 to1980. Mary Grote, who taught in the elementary at the same time, remembers her as patient and caring, as well as fun-loving. She can remember Sister Mary Hope doing cartwheels with her students (after she pinned her skirt, of course). Please remember Sister Mary Hope in your prayers.

From the Desk of Fr. Mark
Hi, everyone. It is November, a time to remember. In my family, we are getting ready for the celebration of mom's 100th birthday. Although she died in 1988, mom's memory is still close to our hearts. We miss her cooking, her laughter, her stories (as she never knew a stranger), the way she mixed English and German (she couldn't say her "CH's", they always came out as "SH's") when she would say to us kids to put the shicken on the shair and many other ways we missed mom. We will gather to share what we miss most about mom. We miss mom. Stories of remembrance are important because they tell stories of our deepest loves. For the past several years, the names of the departed from the past year are put on the front walls of church. It is my honor to do memorial services for these loved ones. In the course of putting these services to-gether, I get to hear stories of love. Be it the favorite food of a person, how they used to play cards or a favorite outfit they would wear, stories of remembrance are stories of love. Dur-ing this month, make it a month of remembrance, a month of love. In the busyness of life, take time to remember a de-ceased loved one. One last story of my mom: my mom would always cheer for the underdog. Perhaps it was because she was an under-dog, as she never graduated from high school so that she could become a hired girl and help out another farm fam-ily. Maybe it was because she understood humility, as the eleventh child was born with disabilities. Whatever the rea-son, she had a heart for the underprivileged. This year she would have been loyal to the Reds or had a heart for the Cleveland Indians, after losing the World Series. Mom would get a tear in her eye when something good would happen to a child or for someone who needed extra love. The Year of Mercy ends this November. We should not forget. Pope Francis recently reminded people to look after those who need God's mercy. There are many who need a little extra attention around us. Remember the under-dog. Remember them with love. Have a great week.

Pray for Our Country With elections this week, we need to put our country under God. Our nation is also under the protective eye of our Blessed Mother Mary and her Immaculate Heart. There are many prayer forms to help keep our country strong in the Lord. Say a prayer before you vote.
Vocations
This coming week is a week to center on vocations. Many times we think only of vocations to religious life. I'm glad my parents followed a religious call as husband and wife and par-ents. Let us take this time to listen to the Lord so that we can follow our call. In your family, prayers help your children listen to God's voice in this very loud world.

Letter from Fr. Mark regarding important meeting for parents this Wednesday, November 8, at 7:00 p.m., in church:
Dear Parents and Guardians of our students and all interested adults,
We are off to a nice start this year in our Religious Education and CCD programs. The Diocese of Toledo has made available an important resource, The Culture Project, to our children and to our parish. The Culture Project is an initiative of young people, set out to restore a Christian culture through the experience of Virtue. Young adults from around the country commit to proclaim-ing the dignity of the human person and the richness of living sexual integrity, within a Christian framework. These speakers are trained by faithful experts in the fields of medicine, psychology, philosophy and theology. They are equipped to discuss these important topics with knowledge and understanding, while maintaining respect and sensitivity to young people.
There will be a meeting for adults, especially parents and guardians of students grade 6-12, on Wednesday, November 9, at 7:00 p.m., in church. Two speakers from The Culture Project will explain the materials that will be presented to the students in grades 6-12. The presentations will be made during regular class time on the topics of Christian Humanity and Christian Sexuality.
The talk on Christian Humanity will include stories, analogies, natural law, scientific evidence and Christian virtues to increase students' understanding of human dignity. Students will learn facts about the importance and uniqueness of every person and will hear stories of men and women who heroically stood against abuses of this dignity. In a world in which bullying is a real prob-lem, this topic is right on target.
The talk on Christian Sexuality will inspire students to pursue true happiness and fulfillment, while living out the virtue of chas-tity. The speakers will share practical tips on how to live out the virtue of chastity. The speakers will show the emptiness of what is offered by a secular society verses what is offered by the One who wants us to have life to the full. Topics to be covered will include negative body image, promiscuity, immodesty and improper use of technology, including sexting and pornography. With great reverence, the presenters will discuss the beauty of God's design for sexuality. The material will be presented to our young men and women separately and will not include graphic images or descriptions.
We are excited to have the Culture Project come to our parish. The information from their presentations is meant to help parents guide and love their children through the use of Christian virtues. All are welcome to this presentation. Let us inspire our young people to live lives of fulfillment and greatness in the Lord.
I hope to see you all this Wednesday, November 9, at 7:00 p.m., in church.
Sincerely, Fr. Mark
On Wednesdays, November 16 and December 7, the Culture Project will be giving presentations to students in grade 6-12, so it is important that parents come hear their message this Wednesday.
