AutoGrid Pro is a powerful software package for the analysis of theeffectiveness of grounding installations. It computes the resistance ofany grounding system, earth potentials anywhere inside or outside theinstallation and the ground potential rise of the grid and of nearbyburied metallic structures. It also computes the expected touch andstep voltages around the installations, and indicate the regions wheresafe limits are exceeded. It accounts for complex soil structures andfor the presence of transmission or distribution lines or cablesconnected to the grid. The computational engine of AutoGrid Pro isbased on the MALT, RESAP and FCDIST engineering modules whichhave been used in grounding studies for over twenty years. The userinterface consists of a CAD drawing module for the design of thegrounding grid, along with several integrated modules such as:

The Soil module defines the characteristics of the soil where thegrounding grid is installed. Choose a soil model from among severaltypes, including horizontally layered soils, vertically layered soils, and soils with “arbitrary heterogeneities” where the electricalproperties of the soil can vary arbitrarily as a function of position.Alternatively, specify the data obtained from soil resistivitymeasurements and let the program determine a suitable soil model.

The Circuit module is used when it is necessary to take into accountthe contribution of adjacent transmission and distribution circuits tothe grounding. Specify the geometrical locations of the neutral andphase wires and the electrical characteristics of the neutral wires, orselect these quantities from extensive conductor databases. You canalso add your own products to the databases. Alternatively, you canspecify the impedances of the wires explicitly, for a finer control. Aninput processor is available to view the circuits and theircharacteristics.

The CAD drawing module offers full 3D drawing capabilities to createthe grid. It also doubles as a central location for project management.Several tools are available to simplify the creation of complexstructures and to move, rotate, and view the grid from any angle. Usethe Object Database to quickly add commonly encountered structuresto your design, or to store your own structures.

Detailed Description

HighlightsAutoGrid Pro is a powerful, yet easy-to-use tool, which provides asimple, automated and integrated environment for carrying outgrounding studies. The software package consists of severalintegrated engineering modules that are designed to study theeffectiveness of grounding installations with respect to electricalsafety of both personnel and equipment, allowing you to suggestimprovements to existing or new installations. AutoGrid Pro supportsa wide variety of soil structures and can determine the soil structurefrom field resistivity measurements. The program can modelgrounding grids of any shape and size; several electrodes can bemodelled simultaneously. It can also determine the fault currentdistribution between the grounding system and other metallic pathssuch as overhead ground wires, shield wires, neutral conductors, orcable sheaths and armours.

The Soil module determines the characteristics of the soil fromfield resistivity measurements. The Circuit module computes the geometrical and electricalproperties of adjacent transmission or distribution lines or cablesand determines the fault current distribution. The Safety module establishes the criteria used when evaluatingsafety issues around the installation. The Report module manages the results that should be reportedor plotted.Other utility modules and tools, such as a circuit viewer and aconductor ampacity assessment tool.

To accommodate a wide range of applications, many of the program'sfeatures are optional, and can be added at any time, should the needarise.

In Summary

The Safety module lets you select the criteria that should be usedduring the safety analysis of the grounding installation. This includeslimits on touch and step voltages, based on standards of your choice(e.g., IEEE, IEC). Choose from several safety scenarios. Let theprogram decide which area should be examined for safety issues(based on the size of the grid) or draw explicitly the region of intereston top of the grid. The program reports which areas exceed the safetylimits, allowing you to quickly assess the effectiveness of correctivemeasures.

The Report module provides an exhaustive list of available plots andtext reports, whose appearance you can customize. For all computedquantities, you can choose among 2D curve plots, 3D-perspectiveplots, color intensity plots and contour plots. Plots can be produced inmost popular graphics formats.

CAD-based design of the ground grid, allowing for the presence ofground rods. There are no restrictions on the geometry of the grid.Accounts for the presence of nearby passive or energized buriedstructures.Models a wide variety of soil types. Accepts soil resistivitymeasurements made using the Schlumberger, Wenner orgeneralized method.Computes the distribution of fault current along the circuitsconnected to the main grid, thereby reducing the net amount offault current injected in the main grid.Computes the ampacity of conductors, the minimum size ofconductors capable of carrying a certain current, or the expectedtemperature rise of conductors.Spreadsheet functions ease and speed up data entry.Key screens provide illustrations clearly representing the data to beentered and extensive on-line help is only one keystroke or mouseclick away.

Context-sensitive online help and a detailed, step-by-stepengineering “How To...” manual explain the software session andtechnical concepts based on a realistic grounding installation.

AutoGrid Pro provides the following capabilities:

Documentation and support are second to none. An extensive,context-sensitive help system is available for each field or item onyour screen. Furthermore, a detailed, step-by-step “How To...”engineering manual is provided to guide you through each phase of theengineering and modeling tasks required to complete the analysis. This tutorial is based on a realistic grounding study.

Finally, if you still need help, SES experts are available to help you nomatter where you are on this planet. Use our toll-free internationaltelephone numbers or send us a fax or email for immediate, unconditional and free technical support. Further details ondocumentation, support and software validation are provided on theback of this brochure.
