    A Message from the Pastor:

My Friends in the Lord Jesus, Table manners are among the first things we learn at home. They teach us etiquette. They teach us social interaction. We learn what is expected of us in social gatherings. But, manners are so important a life lesson that we apply them to ourselves, even when we are alone. Today in the gospel passage Jesus is invited to a dinner banquet in the home of a prominent Pharisee. But, typical of Jesus, He uses this dinner party as an opportunity to teach about what is expected of believers at the table of the Lord. Table fellowship with Jesus is a sign of solidarity with whomever he is dinning. Jesus often dines with outcasts, those sinners, tax collectors and others. God, in Jesus, is in solidarity with real people, no matter what point they may be in their lives. It seems that the manners of those who partake of the table of the Lord, is always inclusive, in solidarity with others. The social graces of disciples are to be just that, graces. They would include respect of the other, upholding another’s dignity, compassion, forgiveness, loving kindness and civility in speech and in action. Likened to what we may have learned at home, the members of the house hold of God apply these “spiritual manners” privately as well as publicly. They are to be used without hesitation, as if a habit, in every place, with every encounter with others. To be invited at table with the Lord, to partake of heavenly food, nourishes the heart and mind. It makes of us what we consume, the body of Christ. Fr. Ron

    22nd Sunday in Ordinary Time

“Rather, when you hold a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind; blessed indeed will you be

because of their inability to repay you." (Luke 14:13-14)

We have a difficult time with the concept of giving with-out expecting something in return. Even when we give to charity we often want something in return – a raffle ticket, a dinner, a chance to play golf or our name in print. Yet, as Christian stewards, we need to remember that the true reward for our giving awaits us in heaven.

    Can’t Get Out to Mass?

The Daily Mass is webcast Monday-Friday at: www.worcestercatholictv.com or Charter TV3 (Channel 193) throughout Worcester County. The Mass is broadcast from Mary, Mother of the Redeemer Chapel at the Cathedral of Saint Paul.
