The Society of Structural Engineers conducted a four-day seminar on “Design of Reinforced Con-crete Structures to EC2” to facilitate switching from British codes to European codes. The resoruce person was Prof. Priyan Dias, a senior academic from the University of Moratuwa. He is also a co-author of a book ‘Graded Examples in Reinforced Concrete Design to Euro Code 2 (third Edition), published by the Society of Structural Engineers, Sri Lanka. The SSE-SL provides continuous profes-sional development programs in Structural Engineering SSE-SL President Prof. Ruwan Weerasekera delivered the Welcome address and called upon the industry to rally round the society in a “big way”. The seminar was partly sponsored by Melwire Rolling (Pvt) Ltd, a manufacturer of reinforc-ing bars in Sri Lanka. The event was held at the Olympic House Auditorium, Independence Square, Colombo. Singaporean philanthropists Chia Kwok Meng (Vincent) and Ireng Png Ai Leng opened the new three-storyed building for the Kumara Kashyapa Child Development Centre at the Kalapalu-wawa Gothama Thapowanaya Mediation Centre recently at a cost of Rs. 55 million. bition Thine Ru Prabha 2012 organised for the fifth time by Visakha Vidyalaya, Supugaskanda will be held at the National Art Gallery on September 20 and 21. The chief guests will be Prof. Patrick Ratnayaka and Mrs. Priyanthi Samaraweera, Principal, Visakha Vidyalaya. The opening ceremony will be held on September 20 at 10.00 a.m.

Students of 12 school photographic societies will display around 200 photographs at the exhibition.

Krishnamurti talkA recorded public talk on “The mirror of relationship”

delivered by the late Indian sage J. Krishnamurti will be replayed at the Public Library auditorium, Colombo 7 today at 10.30 a.m.

Hameedians ‘Golden Dinner’ Night

Hameedians ‘Golden Dinner’ Night will be held today from 7 p.m. at the Galadari Hotel, organised by the Past Prefects’ Guild (PPG) of Hameed Al Husseinie College.

All the proceeds of the event will be utilised for the development of the school's science laboratory.

The traditional concert, Detu Purawasi Prathibha Prabha, organ-ised by the Ingiriya Elders’ Board, was held at Sri Sumanajothi College, Ingiriya recently. The elders who were over 55 partici-pated. A Hindu religious book titled Saiva Natchinthanaigal written by Dr. Kumaraswamy Somasundaram was released at the All Ceylon Hindu Congress Hall, Colombo 2 recently. Ven. Muruddeniye See-larathana Thera has been conferred the title ‘Dhar-makeerthi Sri Bodhiseeha Piyaratana’ by the Sangha Nayaka Karaka Sangha Sabha of the Malwatte Chap-ter of the Shyamopali Maha Nikaya. The Sannaspatra was presented yesterday at the Malwatte Maha Viharaya Mangala Uposathagaraya.
