The large numbers of presenters, exhibitors, and participants who attended the fi rst Kaiserslautern CVT Symposium in 2010 are proof that there is great demand for such a platform for knowledge and information exchange in the area of commer-cial vehicle technology. This is our motivation for organizing the follow-up event CVT 2012.

Today, this industry has a much more positive outlook on the future than a year ago. The economy is recovering steadily. Now it is important not to miss any market trends and to sup-plement and improve one‘s product portfolio.

For the conference, we are expecting contributions from re-search, development, and construction in the domains mechan-ical engineering, electrical engineering, applied mathematics, computer science, and mechatronics that can be assigned to the following topic areas:

■ Technologies and processes that improve energy and resource effi ciency and accommodate the global demand and avail-ability of energy sources, for instance by saving resources or making increased use of renewable energies;

■ Solutions for the assessment and assurance of safety and reliability for the investment asset “commercial vehicle“ in all of its areas of use;

■ Improvement of productivity and quality in development through stronger use of IT technologies for computation-based processes all the way to virtual product development;

■ New product ideas and vehicle functions based on a better understanding of vehicle/environment/human interaction to provide optimal design and support in the work place “com-mercial vehicle“ and to the affected business processes.

Once again, we have been able to attract well-renowned professionals and managers from industry and academia to this symposium. We are looking forward to receiving numer-ous paper submissions.

Professor Dr.-Ing. Christian Schindler

Speaker of the Program Committee
