Keynote Speaker ~ Mark Danaher, NCC, MA, GCDFI,

CDF Instructor and Career Counselor/Educator

for Manchester High School in Manchester, Connecticut.

Mark holds two Masters Degrees in Educational Psychology and Educational Technology from University of Connecticut and Eastern Connecticut State Univer-sity. Mark has shared his expertise with schools within the state as they look to start or improve the career centers within their schools or districts. He was recog-nized as Manchester High School Teacher of the Year in 2006-2007 and as Man-chester District Teacher of the Year 2006-2007. Mark recently became a Master Trainer for the CDF program and has started training others to become CDF in-structors. He has held leadership positions in Connecticut and now on the NCDA over the past few years. Mark has served as President of Connecticut Career

Counseling and Development Association and now as the North Atlantic Region Trustee.

The Keynote will focus on the story of three workers and their career vision. We will look at their strengths and beliefs and how they apply to us. Concurrently, we will look at organizations and our con-nection to see our true success based on these workers. The goal is to help us understand our connec-tions and out clients as we provide career growth and direction for ourselves and clients.

Kim A. Gilliam, Ed.D., LPC

Associate Director, Career Services

Student Employment Human Resources Manager

Wright State University

Kim has served as a career counselor for over 10 years. Additionally, she is li-censed as a Professional Counselor and has earned a doctoral degree in Coun-selor Education & Supervision. She holds a Career Development Facilitator In-structor credential from the National Career Development Association and teach-es the Global Career Development Facilitator curriculum to graduate counseling students. Likewise, she serves as an adjunct instructor in the departments for Human Services and Education Leadership.

Kim Gilliam is presenting on The Psychology of Job Loss, does personal life im-pact work life? Does work life impact person life? Research has shown that the two are inter-related and inter-dependent yet counselors do not fee adequately trained in career counseling and report low self-efficacy in performing it. It is nec-essary to understand this relationship in order to provide contextually accurate treatment. The focus of this particular workshop will address the impact of job loss on the whole individual and their sense of identity, worth, and purpose. A firsthand account of the men-tal health struggles of an individual who lost his job when a factory in Ohio closed will be presented.
