SUPER GROUP | Sustainability Report 2015 13 However, the Group continues to focus on environmentally friendly business practices. Many of these initiatives make good business sense in that they form part of the Group’s continuing drive to improve efficiencies. The new development at Super Park has included energy efficient lighting, solar electricity generation and heating and the re- use of waste water for the Truck Wash. The Group is also embarking on a project to replace office lights with LED lights for further electricity saving. The results of these initiatives is seen in the 11.87% reduction in carbon emissions for the historically reported businesses in the table below. The Group continues to ensure that its vehicles are properly maintained and not overloaded. Along with continuous driver training, this ensures that carbon emissions from all vehicles meet manufacturers’ specifications. Unfortunately the Group has no control over the Fuel Emission Standards. Currently South African fuel complies with “Euro-2 Standards”. Europe is on “Euro-5 Standards”. It is expected that South Africa will move to the “Euro-5 Standard” by 2017. SG Fleet has had a carbon reduction programme in place since 2008. In the period to date SG Fleet has achieved a 19% reduction in emissions measured as per 1 000 cars against a target of 20%. SG Fleet has set a target of a further 1% reduction in emissions from 2015 to 2020. During 2014 the Group embarked on a project to review and improve its carbon data. The lessons from the previous few years were applied and acquisitions made during the previous year were included with effect from 1 July 2013. Consequently, the 2013 and 2014 figures are not directly comparable as the 2014 base is materially larger than 2013. During the 2013, 2014 and 2015 financial years ended 30 June, the Group reported that its carbon emissions were as follows: 1 July 2012 to 30 June 2013 1 July 2013 to 30 June 2014 1 1 July 2014 to 30 June 2015 Change FY2014 to Total Total Total Description C0 2 e tonnes C0 2 e tonnes C0 2 e tonnes FY2015 % Road travel 77 600 209 383 216 607 3.45 Electricity 27 219 41 422 53 568 29.32 Other 2 4 485 910 1 307 43.63 Total 109 304 251 715 271 482 7.85 CO 2 e tonnes per R1 billion turnover 10 759 17 604 16 415 (6.75) Notes 1. These figures included Safika Oosthuizens, Digistics, Super Rent and African Logistics for the first time. 2. Includes electricity, generator fuel, air travel, hotels, waste and water. This figure increased in FY2015 as a result of increased international travel following the expansion into new geographical areas and the extensive use of generators in Southern Africa as a result of Eskom’s load shedding. 3. The figures in the table do not include Allen Ford, which will be reported from 1 July 2015. This data is used to implement programmes to control, mitigate and reduce where possible the carbon emissions used by the Group. Road travel comprises the most material element of the Group’s carbon footprint and as a result of having no control over Fuel Emission Standards, the Group does not believe there is any benefit in setting emission reduction targets. The Group recognises both the financial and environmental benefits of ongoing carbon emission reduction and will continue to look for opportunities to reduce its carbon footprint. Electricity and water usage In South Africa, the Group has put significant focus on reduction in the use of electricity. At Super Park only low energy lighting is used as well as in most of the Group’s dealerships and other offices. This initiative has already resulted in a significant reduction in electricity consumption. Throughout the Group similar initiatives have resulted in significant reduction in electricity usage. With the above inflation increases in electricity, these initiatives result in direct cost savings to the Group. In a number of property developments completed or in progress, environmentally friendly features have been or will be implemented to reduce the use of electricity and water at these sites. These include the use of solar technology, natural light, grey water systems and energy- efficient lighting, cooling and heating equipment. Recycling Throughout the Group the recycling of paper, plastic and glass is encouraged and the necessary recycling bins are found in various locations. The Dealerships Division places significant emphasis on the recycling of used oil and parts, as well as ensuring that the environment is not impacted by the run-off of polluted water. The Group continues to roll out recycling initiatives to all of its locations and continues to encourage additional recycling initiatives. Conclusion Super Group’s capacity to act as a responsible corporate citizen is directly impacted by its financial performance. The Group continues to focus on initiatives to significantly improve the lives of previously disadvantaged South Africans through training and mentorship. Despite the strides made to date, Super Group acknowledges that there is more to be done. The following imperatives, forming part of the Group’s strategy, will provide the context for setting the Group’s sustainability targets going forward: actively contributing to the success of emerging entrepreneurs and supporting local initiatives; continuing to firmly embed sustainability management in all businesses; retention of key talent and succession planning; and enterprise and socio-economic development. FOR CHARITYone of the clients in the UK is the Scottish Society for the prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SSpCA). each year, the SSpCA arrange a charity golf day to raise funds for this worthy cause. In April 2015 SG Fleet donated a Brumbies shirt that was signed by all the Brumbies players and SSpCA will auction the shirt at this year’s event in September.

For Charity

sgfleet continues their support of the St.George Foundation by being a silver sponsor at the Annual St.George Foundation Ball. This year it was held at the Star Event Centre in November 2014 where sgfleet had a table to the black tie event. The evening raised $667,002, which is a record breaker for the Foundation. The St.George Foundation invests in programs run by smaller charities who are close to the families and communities they help. But unfortunately, these charities attract little recurrent government funding and who aren’t big enough to generate significant fundraising income of their own. To date, the Foundation has provided more than $23million in funding grants to 800 community organisations, with all donations going directly to those in need (all administration costs are incurred by the St George Bank).

Cancer

Thank you to everyone who supported the Business Systems quarterly themed lunch. It was great to see a lot of pink and blue throughout the office and although it seemed like someone was having a baby shower, people dug deep and gave generously.

In April 2015 we managed to raise $750 between both Pymble and Homebush sites, with sgfleet matching this to take the total to $1500.

The $1500 donation has been split between the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia and the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

Thank you for supporting this day.

We all heard the news about the earthquake in Nepal which devastated the entire country. With the death toll over 8000 and many others injured, entire towns completely wiped out and people without

clean water, food and shelter not to mention needing medical assistance. Two of our colleagues have immediate family in Nepal - Rinju Karmacharya and Sarila Karanjit. This inspired staff members to raise funds to support Nepal.

With a collection box at reception at Pymble, staff members holding a morning tea to raise funds, and holding crazy hat day, over $1679 was raised with sgfleet matching every dollar in May 2015. $3360 was divided between the Maiti Nepal Emergency Relief Fund and Guthi Australia Earthquake Appeal - two non-profit organisations that provide community based support to Nepal. And with a second earthquake just recently occurring, those funds are needed now more than ever. Thank you to staff members for their generosity and support – from donating money to contributing to morning tea.

Homebush office got in the spirit with some cake making.

Trailwalker for Charity

Once again, sgfleet sponsored 20 staff members to participate in the city2surf fun run in August 2014. Everyone had a great time irrespective of whether they ran or walked. There was some great results with Ben Raid at 1hour and 1min and Victor Chan at 1h 23min. Thanks to everyone who participated and thanks to sgfleet for supporting this great event.

Jaime Wood, Angela Tosatto, Mike Davis and Angela Brown participated in Oxfam Trailwalker over the weekend of 22nd August 2014. Trailwalker involves teams of four trekking though 100km of bush trail within 48 hours and raises much needed funds for the work of Oxfam. After a week of rain, the trail was very difficult and the team walked through the night to finish the 100 kilometres in 38 hours. Sore

and beyond tired, the team was one of the small number (less than a third) of teams who were able to finish as a complete team of four. This was only possible through the amazing support of their colleagues, Alexis Thomson, Michelle Thomas, Marisa Picone and Melanie Knowles who were at the checkpoints to feed and encourage them. A great effort and a real test of mental toughness! The team has raised over $3000 for Oxfam.

Oxfam Trailwalker is a global event that runs in every capital city in Australia, along with UK and New Zealand. This is a great initiative that sgfleet supported.
