Concert/Festival Make-up assignment www.bluedevilsmusic.weebly.com

Grading:

1) 60% Performance Evaluation (paper) 2) 40% Individual Performance Recording (performance)

Part 1: Listen to our performance and write a paper addressing the following topics:

Music evaluation using the MSBOA categories of intonation, interpretation, rhythm, technique, and tone quality. (See Mrs. Schack for a recording or Richmond TV12 on YouTube)

Personal thoughts on the performance and how your absence impacted how the group

sounded.

Interview someone in our band that performed in the concert. Answer the following questions and write a paragraph with their answers.

1) What did we do in the warm-up room and how did if effect our stage performance? (Suggestions: Behavior, warm-ups, posture checks, etc) 2) How did you think the stage performance went? What could have gone better? (Items to consider: behavior, getting on and off the stage, posture, energy of the music, overall musical performance, stage experience)

Completely answer the following essay topic with complete sentences and in an essay form.

There is no maximum or minimum however you will be graded on effort (main idea, detail, accuracy, and mechanics) just like in a standard rehearsal or performance.

Your paper must be organized to clearly express your opinions of the performance. Your paper must be typed, no bigger than 12 pt font, double spaced, max 1” margins. Your paragraphs must have a main sentence and 4 or 5 supporting sentences. Be as

specific as possible. Use measure numbers, parts, with proper musical terminology. Attach a MSBOA rubric with your score of the performance to your paper.

Part 2: Record yourself playing through the concert music. This can be done before or after school with Mrs. Schack recording or on your laptop. You can also email your recording if you choose to record on your laptop. [email protected]

You will not be graded individually on your performance. This is a pass/fall portion of the makeup assignment.

Make-up assignments are due within one week of receiving this assignment, no exceptions. Next time, remember… we’d rather see you at the concert! Student’s name: ________________________________Due date: _____________________
