Our school acknowledges parents as the primary educators of their children, and aims to further develop each child intellectually, emotionally, physically, socially and spiritually, creating lifelong learners who have the ability to draw upon processes and skills, to cope with future technologies in a changing society. Our school strives to be accepting of multicultural and individual differences. It acknowledges the rights of children to be safe and values them through pastoral care. Hi all! I feel like I should say welcome back to St Patrick’s for 2018, however I want to firstly say thank you! Thank you for the opportunity to lead St Patrick’s in 2018. I know you are all very passionate about your town and your school and I am looking forward to working with you to make this school the best it possibly can be. I’m sure I will meet you all over the coming weeks but just to put your minds at ease, I thought I would take this opportunity to tell you a little bit about me. I have moved to Katanning with my wife Christina and our three children. We have Hayden (7), Kai (5) and Elodie (21 months). Originally we are from Perth, however we have spent the last six years moving around taking various leadership opportunities in places like Djarindjin Lombadina, Kununurra and Carnarvon. We love living in the country now and cringe at even the sight of traffic lights. Personally, I like being active and outdoors. Some of my favourite things to do include camping, surfing, wakeboarding, spearfishing and fishing. I have played many sports, however football, basketball and martial arts have seen my main involvement. Christina’s primary and most important role is caring for our children, however professionally, she is a registered nurse who is studying Complimentary Medicine externally with Endeavour College. As a family we like to escape regularly, packing up the camper trailer and exploring parts of Western Australia. Last year we were fortunate to have travelled and explored many places including the Gibb River Road, Broome, Kununurra, Coral Bay, Exmouth and the Quobba coast to name a few. This year, we are looking forward to travelling to some hidden gems in this region too. Professional, my passion is reading instruction in the early years as I have seen the difference learning to read makes to the lives of young children. I place importance on establishing relationships and I value community. This year I have asked staff to register their classes on Class Dojo. This will give all parents the opportunity to see the learning happening in classes and receive real time feedback as to how their child is doing. Information regarding parents log in details should come home soon. This Monday 5 th of February will see a new initiative commencing at St Patrick’s. The “Mum’s and Bub’s” morning tea will offer a place for mothers to come, chat, share, support and have a cup of tea and cake together. It will be held each Monday in the Pre-Primary room from 8:30 – 10:30am. I encourage mothers of young children to hang behind after dropping off their elder children and come and meet some of the other mothers in the school. Also, don’t forget that this Friday at 11am we will have our welcome back and commissioning Mass in the Church. It would be great to see many parents there. I am really excited to be at St Patrick’s and I am looking forward to having a positive impact on this school in 2018. Kind Regards, Andrew Gammon Acting Principal.

ST PATRICK’S CHURCH Celebrate Mass with Fr Francis Constantino this Sunday 4th February Altar Servers: Volunteers required.

Suffering The Word Simon’s mother-in-law was sick with a fever, so Jesus took her hand and healed her. People came to Jesus and he healed many who were sick and drove out many demons. Then Jesus went to a lonely place to pray. The disciples looked for him saying, “Everyone is looking for you.” Jesus answered, “We must go to the other villages – I have to preach to them too. Look Closer Prayers Answered. When people are sick we pray for them. Sometimes they get better and sometimes they don’t. God always hears and answers a sincere prayer, just not always the way were expecting. God knows that the difficult times can be a source of grace and growth in our lives and, like a loving parent, God wants to be with and to help us.

Father, we ask you to watch

over our family. We know that you hear our prayers. We offer

our joys and sadness. Amen
