This is the first year that St Patrick’s is participating in the fun run and we will learn quite a bit about how the program runs and the best way to engage our students and families. We have made very good progress with our online fundraising. There is still the opportunity for families to raise money right up until the 26 th May. After this date the online fund raising will close and the prize ordering option will open. Our Fun Run on Friday will be an obstacle course style run. In this week’s Concern, I am including the procedure the school uses to deal with behaviour issues. It promotes a Positive approach to dealing with students, staff and families at all times The school will aim to promote a Safe, caring and respectful environment, based on the dignity of the human person ‘created in the image and likeness of God; Any behaviours that seriously affect or endanger the well-being of the community need to be addressed with Christ-like compassion. St Patrick’s School Vision Statement St Patrick’s Catholic School in Katanning aims to emulate Jesus through its motto of Concern by

engaging children, teachers, parents, community and the parish to work together in a supportive and happy environment. Our school acknowledges parents as the primary educators

of their children, and aims to further develop each child intellectually, emotionally, physically, socially and spiritually, creating lifelong learners who have the ability to draw upon processes

and skills, to cope with future technologies in a changing society. Our school strives to be accepting of multicultural and individual differences. It acknowledges the rights of children to

be safe and values them through pastoral care.

Dear Parents and Guardians, This week is very exciting as we look toward our Fun Run this Friday. This is the first year that St Patrick’s is participating in the fun run and we will learn quite a bit about how the program runs and the best way to engage our students and families. We have made very good progress with our online fundraising. There is still the opportunity for families to raise money right up until the 26th May. The students will be allowed to celebrate their faction by wearing the faction colours. A note was sent home on Monday regarding the dress for the fun run. In this week’s Concern, I am including the procedure the school uses to deal with behaviour issues. It is taken directly from our Behaviour Management policy:

RATIONALE At St Patrick’s Primary School, behaviour management is based on Gospel values. • It promotes a Positive approach to dealing with students, staff and families at all times • The school will aim to promote a Safe, caring and respectful environment, based on the dignity of the human person ‘created in the image and likeness of God; Any behaviours that seriously affect or endanger the well-being of the community need to be addressed with Christ-like compassion. Peace to you and your family, Mr. Christopher Smith Principal

Congratulations to Montanna Campbell in Year Six, last week she was notified that she was selected for Team Futures – those athletes identified as future Olympians. Montanna had to send through her videos of her routines and she was graded. She is number two out of 39 athletes and only four athletes were chosen across Australia in her age group. Consequently, Montanna has also been selected for the Australian Team for the World Championship for 2018 in Bendigo. Congratulations Montanna!

Prinipal’s Review 2017: This year Mr Smith will be reviewed. The review will take place in Term Three and will run over three days. A range of St Patrick’s staff as well as School Board and P & F executive will have the opportunity to provide data, via a questionnaire, regarding his role and responsibilities as School Principal. These ‘data sources” will then undergo interviews by the visiting panel in Term Three. This process is standard practice for all Principals in the Catholic system.

2018 Enrolments are now open!

St Patrick’s School is now calling for enrolments for Kindergarten and Pre Primary to Year 6 in 2018. Interested parents should contact the school for enrolment forms. Closing date for applications is Friday 23rd June 2017. Kindergarten forms part of St Patrick’s School, and as a Catholic school, will support the development of the individual, through providing many varied play and learning opportunities, including the Religious Education programme. The Kindergarten programme will challenge and enrich a child’s thinking, nurture their creativity and expand their view of their own physical world. The Kindergarten operates from a purpose built early childhood centre, with excellent facilities and equipment. An Early Childhood trained Teacher, together with a Teacher’s Assistant, implements the Kindergarten Programme. A specialised programme operates in Oral Language and Fundamental Movement skills. All children who are born between 1 July 2013 to 30 June 2014 are eligible to be enrolled.

LEAD - Defining our Strategic Direction

Learning: Learning in PP stepped out of the classroom and into the woods last week, with an excursion to Dryandra Woodland. The bus trip was long, but we easily passed the time bopping along to the dulcet tones of the Wiggles and the cast of Playschool. We "Rockabye-d" the Bear until our arms were tired, but most of us stayed awake for the duration. Most importantly, we learned about vertebrates and invertebrates, and had fun searching for small woodland creatures amongst the trees. Mrs Pontillo.

Engagement: Last Tuesday the Pre Primary Students embarked on an adventure to Dryandra to hunt for bugs. The students were extremely engaged in their learning and helped support each other to find hidden bugs in the forest. They were able to engage with each other as well as staff from Dryandra. I was so impressed and proud of their fantastic behaviour and the way they engaged in their learning. I think we taught the rangers a thing or two about using our senses for science, and I know they were certainly impressed with the children’s knowledge of animals and invertebrates. Mrs Campbell. Accountability: This week the Kindy class are discovering shapes. I have created a supportive and active classroom environment for students to become confident and involved learners who take responsibility for their own learning. The Kindy students are accountable for new discoveries by becoming independent learners who actively find shapes within their class and home environment. Making our students become accountable sends a message to our students that they are valued and contribute to their own learning. Miss Courtney.

Discipleship – In Religious Education in Year One, we have been learning about all the ways we can love by working. We work to take care of others, creation and ourselves. As it continues to get colder, it is important we look after ourselves by eating well, staying warm and resting. As we learned by reading the story of ‘How the World Began,’ even God needed rest on the seventh day! Miss Vartesi

Keep my Commandments

THE WORD Jesus said, “If you love me you will obey my commandments. I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper who will stay with you forever. He is the Spirit who reveals the truth about God... When I go, you will not be left all alone; I will come back to you.” WWJD: What Would Jesus Do? When faced with moral dilemmas big and small, pause and ask yourself: What would Jesus do? We can be sure that his response would always be based on love, on acting with compassion and generosity towards others. Make a habit of asking yourself this question before you act.

Jesus, you showed us how

to love. We thank you for your example and

ask for your help in learning to be more like you. Amen.
