When thinking about a garden, plants and trees are foremost in many people’s minds but for the team at Sculpture in the Gardens it’s about the spaces and how art can complement and enhance the beauty of nature. Sculpture in the Gardens is now established as a major event on the New Zealand sculpture event calendar. Since the Friends hosted the inaugural show in 2007 this biennial exhibition has attracted 1.5 million people to view and enjoy great New Zealand sculpture.

Many works have been sold to collectors and there are now 17 works of excellent sculpture sited throughout these magnificent Gardens as part of the burgeoning permanent sculpture collection. We are committed to growing this great collection of New Zealand contemporary sculpture.

As a Patron your support goes towards artists’ stipends, the development of the exhibition and the acquisition of new permanent works. Sculpture in the Gardens has just announced the artists selected for our 2015/16 exhibition. We are delighted with the 20 works of sculpture that our 21 artists (one

collaboration) have proposed and are looking forward to hosting another exciting and inspirational exhibition. I believe in this event, and have supported it over the years and invite you to do the same.

Bill Burrill (QSM),

President, Friends of the Auckland Botanic Gardens.
