March 2014 District 19A Newsletter - District Governor Peter Cheng
Dear fellow Lions, Lionesses and Leos,
It has been a very busy spring with the Lions programs from our clubs. I
would like to welcome all the charter members of the Vancouver
Legacy Lions Club. They put on a charter event with fabulous
entertainment that kept the attendees thoroughly entertained. Among
them there were ten Lions from District H, including DG Kenny Lee to
help celebrate this important event.
Our Spring Conference committee has been diligently putting together an
excellent program to enjoy. SAVE THE DATES, April 25, 26, 2014. You
will not be disappointed. Be sure to contact PZC Teresa Ng with your
completed registration form and payment.

2nd Vice District Governor Eric Keller’s “Talk of the Lions” :
Ladies & Gentlemen of Lions 19-A :
Pemberton Lions Club once again organized a successful Curling Bonspiel Fundraiser at the Squamish Curling rink on Saturday, March 8th. Eleven teams in total participated with representation from Whistler, Squamish, Ambleside~Tiddlycove (defending champs) and Pemberton, of course. This annual event started early with warm-ups and curling instruction and all participants had a lot of fun. There was keen competition throughout with the team from Squamish winning it
all. The defending champs from Tiddlycove came in second this time. The afternoon ended with *appies*, drinks, the award ceremony and an auction. All Lions teams are already looking forward to next year’s event. PZC Dorothea and her Pemberton crew worked hard on the organization and scheduling. Many thanks !
I also visited with the Vancouver Chinatown Club on Thursday, March 13th doing a presentation on this year’s 2nd VDG activities and outlining my aims & aspirations for the 2014 ~ 15 Lions year.
Last Thursday’s visitation with the Port Coquitlam Lions Club and the Lions Bay Search & Rescue presentation. I am heading up to Pemberton Lions with Bryan on Wednesday, April 2nd next to retrieve our coveted Hammer in exchange for their precious Cow Bell which was obtained
at their Curling Fundraising event in Squamish. Pemberton is a lively Club, a great place to visit and a scenic drive up along the Sea-to-Sky Highway . I did enjoy the Campus Diamond Club’s Friday evening event @ Yuck Yucks. I did try to get a couple of more tickets, Dave & Don but it had sold out, in fact over-sold. A number of people could not get in ! Four comedians put on quite a show. The last one, Christopher Molineux; lasting over an hour was incredibly funny. And, of course, it was cool to go with my Daughter and her friend Rose-Mary and meeting up with Pres. Alvin Lau and the *young* Campus Club Members. They do know how to have fun and collected several thousand dollars for their Charity – Covenant House in Vancouver . The only problem.. did not get home until 2:10 a.m. and then had to get up early to attend the A-7 Zone meeting at the Point Grey Golf Club @ 8:30 a.m. Ouch !! However, they did provide breakfast and lots of coffee and that Club setting is excellent, much like our Capilano Golf & Country Club. This was a well run meeting and all 12 A-7 Clubs attended. ZC Clara Chow is a very capable organizer. The NS Search & Rescue group also made a presentation and I spoke to them about our ongoing support and the Lions Bay members visit with us on Thursday.

March 8,2014 Lioness Club Celebrates their 30th Anniversary
Lioness is a very special class of Ladies dedicating their time, love and effort towards the Lions
motto "WE SERVE" like the rest of us Lions, and yet asking no recognition, no voting privileges
but just continue to serving the less fortunate in our community in the last 30 years !! NO doubt
A very unique group of lovely ladies in our Lions family !!
The night was shared with approximately 100 participants consisting of friends and Lion members from
various Lions Clubs of our District. This night is dedicated solely to the celebration of the 30 years of
service and sharing it with those present in the warm ambience of the Arbutus Club in Vancouver.
March 9, 2014
Celebration of the Installation Night for the Legacy Lions Club of 19A1
An exciting evening of formal legalities with the installation Ceremony among Acceptance and
Congratulatory speeches !!
The evening was a total success with over 130/150 friends and Lions all showing support and fellowship to
this new addition in 19A1. And of course, Celebration is not a total celebration without great food,
entertainment and raffle prizes ...................an un-rehearsed highlight was definitely the collapse of the
table at the cake cutting ceremony but the Cake stand unharmed but survived beautifully, sitting intact on
the floor ;still looking good and delicious !! What a miracle !!
A night to remember and a Great Start with a big BANG !! All the best and many more years to come
Legacy Lions : )
March 15, 2014
Pacific Lions Club Fundraising Event
A Full House at the Shaughnessy Golf Club to its maximum capacity of 150 seatings.
The delicious Roast Beef Buffet featuring a variety of salads, cold cuts, hot plates and very tempting
desserts started off the evening in the right track.
Short speeches by the Event Chair and Club president were well received.
The rest of the evening was dedicated to entertainment by some young and talented singers and dancers
with a couple of them from none but the Cathay New Century Lions Club. Lion Kelvin and Lion April, also
from the Cathay New Century Lions Club, did a marvelous job Emceeing the performance!!
Reportedly, money raised from the evening goes to LCI , CARE and various other charitable
organizations of their choice.
I like to thank those who helped with providing information re the above Lions Activities
so we can share the joy and success of our fellow Lions !!
