Recycling contributionThis symbol indicates that the manufacturer adheres to Consortia, provided for bylaw to orga-nise the recovery and recycling of packaging. Widely spread in Northern Europe, it is of little significance in Italy as the relevant authorities have not issued precise provisions. The first one regards paper or cardboard packaging and the second one plastic. Both can signify two things: that the packaging is recyclable but not necessarily recycled. Therefore, without further specification, both symbols are ambiguous. The numbers inside the second symbol from 1 to 6 indicate the type of plastic used according to a predetermined code. Sometimes, the number is accompanied by more precise acronyms (e.g. 02-PE-HD=high density polyethylene - 04-PE-LD=low density polyethylene). Number 7 means the material is not recyclable.
