THE BREAKING NEWS OF INFORMATION DELAY.On scene, news vans transport reporters and cameramen and transmit LIVE footage to news stations for broadcasting. These vans are expensive, oversized, and often are delayed in transit. Upon arrival, direct cabling limits the distance reporters/cameramen can get to a subject and inhibit mobility.

Current wireless camera broadcasting devices are wildly expensive and don’t offer a diversity of channels for transmitting.

UTILIZING EXISTING COMMUNICATION NETWORKS GIVES BACK RELIABILITY WHILE REDUCING OVERALL COSTS.Comrex Corporation and [ELEVEN] partnered to create a product that could seamlessly transmit live camera footage at an affordable price. The use of USB sticks produced by major wireless phone providers enabled inexpensive video transmission and connection wherever you can make a phone call.

The Video Coding Module [VCM] nestles between any professional camera and battery power pack, giving lightweight and untethered transmission. Bendable masts extend upwards out of the VCM which both improve on reception as well as distance microwaves away from the cameraman.

ADAPTING AND ADJUSTING COMPONENT CONFIGURATIONS GETS YOU SMALLER.

Comrex provided [ELEVEN] with the basic electrical parameters necessary to transmit video in a number of different ways. [ELEVEN] developed component configurations with size and simple user interfaces in mind.

Once internal component layouts were selected , 2D sketches and painted foam models brought the product to life. Comrex chose to develop a concept (foreground lower right image) that balanced simplicity and size.

By locating all the points of interaction (buttons/ LEDs) as close to the cameraman as possible a division of clear (user interface) and cluttered (wire routing) emerged which simplified a complicated product.The exterior surfacing is thought-fully faceted which became a landing for button and LED groupings. This faceting also provided a visually slim

Color, Material, and finish were embodied in an appearance model which was unveiled at the 2011 NAB (national association of broadcasters) convention 2011 in Las Vegas.

At the show, LiveShot was awarded ‘Superior Technology’ award from TVTechnology and ‘Pick Hit’ from Radio magazine. Public interest began to fill pre-order forms before Comrex was ready for production.

DOING IT RIGHT OFTEN DRAWS ADDITIONAL BUSINESS.With the success of the Comrex LiveShot, [ELEVEN] became the sole design firm that Comrex would collaborate with for future product. Several addi-tional needs emerged including the examples below.

COMREX ACCESS PORTABLE USB[ELEVEN] developed a molded USB port that is assembled onto the ACCESS PORTABLE. This port enabled the ACCESS to transmit LIVE audio over WiFi and other wireless networks.

COMREX UNIVERSAL RACK-MOUNT BEZELWith a disarray of rack mounted bezel designs, Comrex needed to refresh their rack mounted design language to the twenty-first century. [ELEVEN] developed a universal solution that could fit any COMREX product today and is flexible enough to accommodate future products as well. Using the same cast carrier as a frame, the centered film label can be die cut which allow the passage of LEDs, navigation control buttons , and anything else of need.
