Share Information

Networks allow authorized people or users to see information saved in other computer connected to the network.

Share Hardware and Software

The computers connected to the network can share equipment such as: printers, moderns, etc. They can also share software. This helps to avoid duplication costs.

Share Internet

Networks can share a single internet connection. This makes it easier to communicate. People can talk efficiently via e-mail, instant message, chat rooms, or videoconferencing.

Types of Networks

There are three main types of networks:

LAN

MAN

WAN

Page 9: Computer Network

LAN (Local Area Network)

LAN is usually used to physically link two computers within a geographical limited area such as a building. The linked computers are called workstations.

MAN (Metropolitan Area Networks)

A metropolitan area network is used to cover lager geographic areas, such as cities.

Page 11: Computer Network

WAN (Wide Area Networks)

A wide area network is used to cover even larger geographical areas such as countries.
