The associate in science degree or certificate in CBIS is designed to provide you with an understanding of the fundamentals of business and how they relate to information systems needs. Throughout your coursework you will develop technical skills that allow you to analyze and solve problems using a variety of approaches. By selecting the appropriate software, your training will support the design, development, deployment and maintenance of business applications. Several certificates in CBIS are offered as stand-alone or add-on options providing you with a variety of choices in choosing a specialty. Our curriculum is designed to facilitate your entry into the workforce upon graduation; additionally, our coursework is flexible if you are already in the workforce and are looking to supplement your knowledge for promotion or advancement. Each of our certificates is unique. Your training can vary from developing skills to plan, develop and manage business websites to learning general office applications and even to training for project, program management and computer programming. Employment Opportunities:As a graduate of the Computer Business Information Systems (CBIS) degree or certificate program there are many job opportunities available and you will be prepared for a variety of entry-level positions in the information technology industry. Additionally, your education will give you opportunities for advancement in your current career if you have already chosen a career in Information Technology Systems (ITS). According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (bls.gov) May 2009 national wage estimates, the mean annual wage for office and administrative support occupations is $32,990. With the training you will receive from the CBIS program at Allan Hancock College you can expect to earn wages between $14 and $16 an hour.

Facilities and Equipment:The Computer Resource Center (CRC) lab at the Santa Maria campus and the computer labs at the Lompoc Valley Center are hands-on learning labs. During open lab hours, lab personnel are available to students. The lab supports students taking online and traditional courses.

Free Microsoft software is provided to students through the Microsoft Developer Network (MSDN) program.
