    TRANSMISSION CONTROL PROTOCOL
The Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) is one of thecore protocols of the Internet Protocol Suite. TCP is oneof the two original components of the suite,

complementing the Internet Protocol (IP), and thereforethe entire suite is commonly referred to as TCP/IP. TCPprovides reliable, ordered delivery of a stream of bytesfrom a program on one computer to another program onanother computer. TCP is the protocol that major Internetapplications such as the World Wide Web, email, remoteadministration and file transfer rely on. Otherapplications, which do not require reliable data streamservice, may use the User Datagram Protocol (UDP), whichprovides a datagram service that emphasizes reducedlatency over reliability.

    Terminology

internetwork,[2] the result of interconnecting computernetworks with special gateways or routers. The Internetis also often referred to as the Net.The term the Internet, when referring to the entireglobal system of IP networks, has been treated as aproper noun and written with an initial capital letter. In the media and popular culture, a trend has alsodeveloped to regard it as a generic term or common nounand thus write it as "the internet", withoutcapitalization.
