APPLICATIONS

COMPOST SCREEN OVERSIZE PROCESS DESCRIPTION

If left untreated, compost screen oversize has to be incinerated at great finan-

cial cost. Due to the described processing these costs can be lowered. What’s

more, the following useful fractions are produced:

HIGH-CALORIFIC REFUSE-DERIVED FUELS (foils, see image top left),

REGENERATIVE, MEDIUM-CALORIFIC REFUSE-DERIVED FUEL (biomass, see image top centre),

STRUCTURAL MATERIAL FOR COMPOSTING (see image top centre),

INERT STONE FRACTION (see image top right).

All fractions listed here are also free from surface contamination in the form of

sand or compost.

COMPOST SCREEN OVERSIZE Process description

The heavy fraction proceeds to the sink-

float separation system to separate

stones from wood. Part of the float ing

fraction is send back into the windrow to

serve as structural material in the com-

posting process.

The rest can be utilised as fuel in a

biomass power plant. The water used

in the sink-float separation is than tre-

ated in a lamella clarifier to remove se-

diments and re-circulate the water back

into the process.

The process of treating compost screen

oversize consists of a wind sifter, sink-flo-

at separation, including removal of surfa-

ce contamination from the light fraction,

and treatment of the process water. The

screening machine screens the fine com-

post, which is than ready to use for gar-

dening and farming purposes.

The screen oversize proceeds directly

into the wind sifter, where light foil

is separated. The foil can be sent for

incineration as high-calorific fraction.

The water treatment is normally carried

out by a lamella clarifier in combinati-

on with a dosing station to remove the

suspended solids as well. In this way, spa-

ce requirements of the water treatment

are reduced to a fifth of that needed by a

conventional settling tank or basin.

Additionally, this choice of equipment

makes it possible to offer services as a

contractor or to change process layout

according to changed conditions and

customer reqirements.

WATER TREATMENT Water treatment guarantees continuous

operation and consistent separation.

Depending on the material, a dosing

station may also be necessary along

with the lamella separator.

SINK–FLOAT SEPARATION The HDS-M separates the stones from the wood by density.

Additionally, the wood fraction is cleaned of surface

contaminants such as sand in a washing drum.

WIND SIFTING The foils are separated from the

heavy fraction and discharged into

a container or onto a conveyor belt.

The heavy fraction is passed over to

the HDS-M via the side conveyor to

undergo sink–float separation.
