MODBOX® is a compact and modular solution, for a smart and safe integration of high voltage components on traction vehicles running on AC and/or DC networks.Built on a standard platform of rolling-stock-dedicated aluminium enclosure, MODBOX® is configured and engineered to address each project particular requirements for both integrated functionalities and interfaces to the vehicle.Designed to solve critical issues met with high voltage components set individually on vehicles’ roof, MODBOX® offers significant added value for both car builders and vehicle operators.Sécheron switching and protection components (AC circuit-breakers, DC circuit-breakers, contactors, disconnect switches) are primarily integrated in MODBOX®, completed with devices from first class suppliers for the other functions necessary to the application.MODBOX® is the solution selected by car builders for hundreds of trains, including high speed trains, running on 1.5kVDC, 3kVDC and 25kVAC networks worldwide.
MAIN BENEFITSMAIN BENEFITS Modularity
MODBOX® is a modular platform suitable for AC and DC vehicles, offering different sizes (MODBOX® Small, Medium & Large), depending on the integration scope , as well as variants for roof or under-frame installation.
Smart integration
One single unit for most of AC or DC high voltage components, roof or under-frame mounted. Delivered fully equipped and tested, MODBOX® is convenient to source and ready to be installed.
Compactness
Overall roof/under-frame volume for high and low voltage components is largely reduced with MODBOX®, and no more space for cable ducts is required between the roof and the car’s ceiling.
High added value
Compared with ‘’stand-alone’’ components solution, MODBOX® reduces significantly project management tasks as well as engineering and manufacturing risks, while optimizing project overall costs.
Protection for harsh environmental conditions
Protecting high voltage roof equipment against dust, snow, ice and sand, MODBOX® simplifies design constraints for car builders, as well as it guarantees train operators a longer life time and a higher availability of their rolling stock.
Reduced Total Cost of Ownership
Protected with MODBOX® against accidental and meteorological/environmental impacts, high voltage roof mounted components can afford longer maintenance intervals.
Safety
Metal clad enclosure validated by Finite Element Analysis, and tested for vibrations & shocks according to IEC61373. EMC proven, and acheiving an IP56 protection index, MODBOX®
complies with EN50124 insulation requirements with a rated impulse voltage of 125 kV (150 kV in option) for AC versions and 20 kV for DC versions.
