1. Introduction HDBaseT is a connectivity standard which consolidates high throughput, unidirectional, HDCP protected,
uncompressed high definition digital multimedia with bidirectional data networking over standard
CAT5e/6 structured cabling.
The scope and purpose of the HDBaseT Compliance specification 1.2 (this document) is to define
procedures, tools and criteria for testing the compliance of systems with HDBaseT Specification Version
1.0.
HDBaseT devices consist of four types:
HDBaseT Source – A video generating device that consists an HDBaseT TX port
HDBaseT Sink – A device containing a video display processor and an HDBaseT RX port
HDBaseT TX Extender – A device that passes through video from HDMI input port to an HDBaseT
TX output port
HDBaseT RX Extender – A device that passes through video from an HDBaseT port to an HDMI
output port
HDBaseT devices are classified as either HDBaseT or HDBaseT-Lite. The difference between the two classes
is presented in the following table:
This document also defines an additional testing category for HDBaseT Cables. The purpose of this
procedure is to test and identify specific cable characteristics for HDBaseT operation. In general all tests
require connection of the Device Under Test (DUT) to a Golden Unit (GU). There are two types of GU:
HDBaseT TX Extender GU and HDBaseT RX Extender GU.

The test definitions are intended to provide a description of the purpose, resources, and procedures to
each test. Specifically, each test description consists of the following sections:
Test ID – Test ID number and a title
Test Purpose – A brief statement outlining the goal of the test
Test References – This section specifies source material external to this document
Test Resources – Specifies the test hardware and/or software needed to perform the test
Test Setup – This section describes the configuration of the test environment
Test Procedure – Describes the test method in detailed
Test Pass/Fail Criteria – State the test limits for PASS and FAIL

Test #6.1.1.1 - IR over HDBaseT test
Test Purpose
Verify that HDBaseT Device Transmits/Receive IR control signal correctly over HDBaseT link.
Requirements
A 38 KHz IR carrier frequency support is mandatory.
Source/Sink/Extender type DUT with RX/TX blaster jack will have to work with both
modulated and un-modulated RX blaster.
Test Resources
a. HDBaseT GU
b. PC/Laptop with HDBaseT GU CTS SW.
c. UTP CAT5E 0.5 meter (See (Cfg#5))
d. 2 x 2 meter HDMI 1.4 cable as specified at section 2.6
e. HDMI source/Sink with IR remote control
Test Procedure
1. Connect DUT HDBaseT port to HDBaseT port on HDBT GU using short CAT5E UTP cable
2. Verify HDBT link established and Set HDBT GU IR configuration according to DUT IR
functionality as reported in CDF :
i. *If DUT CDF IF filed reported as IR transmitter then set HDBT GU unit
to IR receiver
ii. *If DUT CDF IF filed reported as IR receiver then set HDBT GU unit to IR
transmitter
iii. *If DUT CDF IF filed reported as IR receiver& transmitter then first set
HDBT GU unit to IR transmitter mode and test DUT IR receiver
functionality then Set HDBT GU to receiver mode and test DUT IR
transmitter functionality
3. Try to control HDMI Sink/source device using device remote control over HDBaseT IR
link (in case that HDBaseT device reported has internal IR transmitter try to operate
DUT over HDBaseT )
- Test the following control functions for sink device:
I. Power up
II. Volume control
- Test the following control functions for source device:
I. Power up
Compliance Test Specification 1.2
78
II. Play/stop function
Test Pass/Fail Criteria
If any of the control functions which specified in step C fail to be performed over HDBaseT IR then
test FAIL else test PASS
