Foreword from our Ambassador
Kellie “The Seasoned Veteran”, one of our three Front Row Ambassadors, is an experienced tourer with three Northern Tours under her belt (2016, 2017 & 2018). Hear from her about what makes the Northern Tour so special and learn a few special tips for your trip!
I’ve been lucky enough to go on the Northern Tour three times. Each tour was an amazing experience that was chock-full of incredible memories and incredible people. I remember lunching in a Welsh pub in our All Blacks gear where the publican (who recognised our gear) asked if we wanted to have a chat with Barry John. What are the chances that one of Wale’s legendary players was a regular? Needless to say, we said yes and had a lovely chat with the man himself. Another time, in Scotland, we had a lovely Scottish lady on tour with us. She sang the Flower of Scotland in a pub, the day before the test match – she was so proud to sing for us and really shows just how cool the people you meet are.
I’ve also had the wonderful experience of visiting Edinburgh Castle, where we had the castle to ourselves for the night. We had dinner and drinks, followed by a pipe band who played for us outside the castle. I later found out from the head of the band that they had to get permission from the Queen to play there – it was only the second time they had ever done it!
You truly can’t beat being in the rugby stadiums and listening to the opposition’s supporters sing their national anthems and songs – it’s unreal. It’s amazing and deafening at the same time. The lone piper standing on the stadium roof in darkness tops it – you could hear them all around Murrayfield.
My pro tips: 1. Take some small currency with you for each country you go to. 2. Make sure you have a photo or card of the hotel you’re staying at.
I’ve just signed up for 2020 – looking forward to making more memories, and hopefully seeing you too.
