BIOMETRIC BASED ATTENDANCE AND CLASSROOM AUTOMATION

SYSTEM (Elmer S. Corder; Edniel A. Dejada; & Ruel B. Patriarca, March 2012)

Abstract

This paper discussed a project design of a biometric based attendance and classroom automation

system. The system allows instructors and students to record their attendance when entering a

classroom. The fingerprint features can make the system secured because no students can record

their attendance except to be authenticated by the system. This provides a reliable solution to

prevent any student impersonation or falsification of attendance. It indeed provides efficient

checking of attendance of both faculty and students. Moreover, electricity consumption inside the

classroom is controlled by the system through disconnecting the central command when class is

not conducted. This system uses personal computer that runs under Windows XP platform and

develops using VB. Net and MS Access.

CAMPUS ELECTRICAL CONSUMPTION SCHEDULER: AN AUTOMATIC TOOL

FOR CLASSROOM ELECTRICAL CONSUMPTION MANAGEMENT (Wilbert Adelantor; Sherwin Ferrer; & Robert Joey Vidal, March 2012)

Abstract

The main objective of this project Electrical Consumption Scheduler was to create a system that

would manage power consumption of classrooms by restricting the use of electricity of rooms

which are not officially in use or have no official class schedule in a specific period of time. The use

of this technology would surely curtail lavish and unnecessary use of power and would lead to

efficient power management in Notre Dame of Marbel University. The researchers built an

Electrical Consumption Scheduler, an automatic tool for classroom electrical consumption, whose

front end is the Microsoft Visual Studio 2008. It has a parallel printer port to trigger the relay in

switching the power of the room.

UNIVERSITY (Rodolfo H. Batiller Jr.; CS Gideon G. Bustamante; Alvin Jay E. Sadava;

& Angelie H. Sales, March 2012)

Abstract

Schools nowadays commonly used gates as point of entry and exit. Today many gate doors are

designed to be automated with varied special features. The system described in this study

incorporates the use of technologies which are available in the market. The technology used will

help in the gate monitoring and manning of security personnel. In this project, the proponents

attempted to construct a small and simple model of Automatic Gate System in an economical scale.

They used networking technology such as the simple wireless computer networking that utilized

the Wi-fi technologies IEEE 802.11. The universally accepted optically machine-readable

representation of data through the barcode scanner was used as well as the different programming

languages mainly VB.Net 2010 for interacting and Structured Query language for database

management.

ENERGY EFFICIENT LIGHTING SYSTEM FOR THE UNIVERSITY LIBRARY

USING LED LAMPS (Ziggrid Darrel C. Acosta; Wenifredo S. Frondozo, Jr; & Gladwyn S. Tomarong, March 2012)

Abstract The conventional bulbs (incandescent and fluorescent) are considered as the only alternative right

now to produce bright light, however bulbs that use LED (light emitting diode) which contain no

mercury neither produce CO2 are quickly emerging as a challenger. LED is the type of lighting,

which is most commonly used to illuminate signs, signals and displays but is rapidly evolving to

provide light for general illumination. This project is aimed to provide the NDMU Library with

energy efficienct lighting sytem. The use of LED lamp in illumination design can save large amount

of power and it is more efficient than other types of lamps. The library is using fluorescent lamps

that consume much energy and results to high energy cost. However, once the lighting system using

LED lamps is adopted, the University Library and the whole institution can actually save much

money since it would consume low power and therefore low energy cost. Furthermore, the said

lamps are environmental friendly, thus it can help the University in promoting its image being a

“Green University”.

PASSWORD-BASED DOOR ACCESS SYSTEM WITH MONITORING SCHEME

FOR CLASSROOMS (Rogelio L. Bonlao, Jr.; Eric John B. dela Cruz; & Marychris Joy M. Fria, March 2012)

Abstract

At present, most of the systems are developed to produce automated schemes in order to cope with

the new challenges and demands of an advanced era. A device that uses automated system

facilitates reliable, accurate and high performance. As a consequence, most endeavors of today

more specifically in electronics discipline go for the utilization of automated control systems. The

goal of the project was to develop an electronic security and monitoring scheme applicable for the

classrooms. A password based door access system was designed for this project. One can gain

access to the classrooms by encoding accurate code for system activation, thus preventing

unauthorized individuals from entering the area. The project design is as well convenient for

classroom monitoring and instructional supervision. All in all, the project involves important

circuitries that function in accordance with the desired output. The structure of the project’s system

contains: key pad (number pad) activator, key pad (number pad) for encoding correct code,

electromechanical switch, magnetic door locking scheme, wireless IP camera for monitoring,

wireless router for network connection, and a monitoring unit. The keypad (number pad) that

interfaces the controller is used as the password entry system to open or close the door. Once the

user has entered the correct password, the door lock opens. If the entered password is incorrect,

then access is denied. The wireless IP camera of the system can monitor the location (classrooms)

and individuals entering the area. One can access to the system through the monitor with its

network connectivity.

REPLACEMENT OF NEW LIGHTING SYSTEM OF COLLEGE OF

ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY BUILDING (Kenneth F. Tampe; Angelito A. David; & Asher S. Bangaforo, March 2012)

Abstract

This study was conducted for the purpose of providing the College of engineering and Technology

Building a better and efficient lighting system. This was also for the replacement of conventional

ballast with the electronic ones. Moreover, this was meant to lessen the consumption of the College

of Engineering and Technology Building. The researchers gathered information by statistical

techniques and ocular inspections of offices and classrooms of College of Engineering and

Technology building. The inspection was done to determine the average consumption of the subject

of the study on daily basis and was also calculated on the monthly basis to determine its annual

consumption. The results of the study reveal that with the use of the system, the average

consumption of the College of Engineering and Technology building will be lessened by about 33

percent. The study also found out that the illumination systems of some of the classrooms in the

building were under illuminated. Thus, the researchers recommend that the building must have an

efficient and more convenient lighting system that can provide safe vision in order to make each

classroom more conducive to learning.

STUDENT INFORMATION MESSAGING SYSTEM (SIMS) (Eusop B. Alim; Celi Liana A. Cruz; Louie Jhayson T. Flores; & Tristan Rae F. Lim, March 2012)

Abstract

In education system, a lot of opportunities are emerging for the betterment of the students.

Nowadays, various types of response systems are available and running successfully. For the

betterment of faculty, students and parents/guardian of the students, they can access information

about school activities by sending a SMS message containing a unique and authentic code for

certain student information. These codes are only given to the students and their parents or

guardians. The system provides information or response to some queries through SMS. The system

based the reply message from database, however if the SMS message received by the system is

invalid it replies an error message to the sender. This software deals with the SMS based

applications. In this software an interactive database management system has been implemented

by which the parent and guardian can get student’s information through SMS service. These student

information messaging systems will be an asset for the institution. Since most mobile phones have

the ability to send and receive SMS, this system is beneficial to the user because it is cost effective

and can save time in knowing current information about school activities and other students’

concerns. It is good to note that this system is public friendly and easy to use.

VAULT SECURITY WITH ALARM SYSTEM (Ian Mark Balleras; Glory Mae Bastareche; & Liezyl Dadivas, Marh 2012)

Abstract Security is a prime concern in day-to-day life, thus, access control system forms a vital link in a

security chain. This project is a breakthrough in technology which can secure houses and other

private properties from robbery. The project is electronic based called Vault Security with Alarm

System, a modified electric circuit installed on the door. It uses microcontroller-based magnetic lock

that serves as access control system and that can be accessed only by the authorized people. When

someone tries to access the vault by entering three invalid passwords, the system will continuously

produce a boisterous alarm. The system comprises a small electronic nit with a numeric keypad

which is fixed outside the door to control a magnetic lock. When a predetermined number

(password) is entered via the keypad, the relay energizes a limited time to unlock the operated lock

so the door can be pushed/pulled open. A prompt message is displayed on the LCD module. When

the entered password does not match the predetermined password, the system will produce an

alarm on the third attempt.
