The layout of these adverts are very similar in that they both
have the band name at the top with the image below, then
the album name below that. They both also have an insight
to the song list on the advert which will entice the audience.
What my advert also has is the enticing quotes from other
magazines/people on what they think about the album,
whereas the professional advert does not. This would give my
advert an advantage on promoting the album if I was to
release this advert. However, the quality of image editing on
the professional album is at a higher standard than my
advert. This will due to the lack of equipment and software in
comparison to professional album designers. This would give
me a disadvantage on the market. Furthermore, both of
these adverts follow a specific unique style. My magazine
advert follows a presidential style which is portrayed with the
fonts, image, band name and album name. And the
professional advert follows a night themed style with the
album name, image colour and the owl that has been
edited into the image. This suggests that to be successful,
you need to have a specific theme that is continued
throughout your package.
As you can see, my album follows the presidential theme from the album advert and so do does the professional album. This connotes that my package has consistency and a set house style. I have used the same image from my album advert on my album which further implements the consistency of my package. It also makes my package
look more professional because this has been done on the professional package too. I have also used the same font styles on my album, whereas on the album of ‘Only By The Night’ has used the same style of font but it is much smaller and doesn’t stand out as much. This could be due to the band already having good brand identity and having a large fan base so they will still be able to recognise the album.
However, my band doesn’t have the identity so it was vital to have the font style large and emphasized on the front cover. The image on the back cover on both albums has the band member/owl facing their back to the camera which is an effective technique to use. This portrays to me that this was a successful camera shot to use because it has been used on a professional album. The set list on my album is in a
stereotypical place and is of a common size. However, the professional album has its set list at the bottom in small text. This may also be because their band identity is on a much larger scale and their audience most likely know the majority of the songs off the album beforehand.
