IFC (Industry Foundation Classes)
• Currently Version 4
• Developed by buildingSMART International (bSI)
• Infrastructure:
• IFC-Alignment officially available (baseline for further infrastructure)
• Proposals from China (bSI SPEC Rail), Korea (Road) and France (Bridge)
• All proposals need to be reviewed and adapted to international needs by international committee of bSI (announcement in April)
• Is planned to become official IFC schema with version 5 in 2 -3 years

RailTopoModel (RTM)
• Generic modell for the description of railway infrastructure data
• Result of UIC´s (International Railway Union) – ERIM (European Rail Infrastructure Masterplan) project
• Development in cooperation with railML.org
• Development of railML (railway Markup Language) version 3 as first“Use Case” of RTM and official data exchange format
• RTM is an UIC-standard since spring 2016: IRS 30100

RTM + IFC-Rail = Future Railway-BIM ?
• Potential overlapping in the area of positioning
• Other from that significant differences => Great potential for complementation
but: Cooperation of bSI and RTM/railML.orgnecessary
• Further studies regarding compatibility necessary

BIM
Requirements derive fromthe operations and maintenancepoint of view
Data management for operations and maintenance
Using BIM we can manage our assets during operations and maintenance (O&M). A complete BIM implementation will be able to realise the full potential, which mainly lies within O&M.
BIM is a method for data and information management through the lifecycle of an asset.
The data management requirements are defined from the O&M point of view. These requirements are initially implemented at the design and planning and construction phases.
