QUESTION ONELooking at my work in comparison to other realist soaps and the techniques they use

Here is an example of where I have used my initial research and carried ideas through right to the end where I have used the techniques in my filming and editing. The pictures on the left show a pull focus used in Coronation Street, where the victim is shown, in focus, and then it pulls to focus on the knife, which is an example of foreshadowing. I have replicated this convention in my own trailer, showing firstly the victim, and then the knife, connoting danger and maybe even murder.

This is another example of where I have replicated shots from an existing realist soap (Coronation Street) in my own work. I feel this shot shows real tension and creates threatening atmosphere.In both my shot, and the above shot, it is evident that the antagonist is dominant in the mise-en-scene which connotes the danger and threat that the characters bringThe victims in both scenes show signs of fear as they are both looking down and take up less space in the frame.

These screen shots demonstrates my efforts to follow soap trailer conventions. I have used the channel 4 logo. I used KeyNote to create an animation to use in iMovie that used transparency. This meant I could replicate the conventions used in channel 4 trailers, as the logo is transparent which anchors the logo onto the clips in the trailer.

BRANDING AND ANCHORING

I feel that my soap trailer uses lots of conventions from realist soaps such as costume, wealth, status and appearance of characters, and also locations and narratives.

As shown on previous slides, I have also sued many similar shot types as the ones I found in my research into realist soaps.

I am happy with the style of trailer I chose to create as a pose to subversion-styled ones which I have talked about in this blog post below.
