Comparative Civilizations 12 Course Outline

Teacher: Tim Loewen 740-2038 ext 2293 [email protected] Room 309

Introduction

Comparative Civilizations 12 with Learn@Home will examine the geography, science, art and culture of ancient civilizations. The journey begins with the onset of organized societies in Mesopotamia and Egypt and moves through the great Greek and Roman civilizations, those of the Islamic Middle East, Japan, the Maya and the Aztec, and concludes with the rise of European civilization in the Dark and High Middle Ages. The course is project based and entirely online – there is no text book. Instead there are links to online sources, lesson pages filled with multimedia and with humour, and the use of Web 2.0 tools.

Student Expectations

1. Each student is responsible for maintaining contact with the teacher on a weekly basis. This can be through sending an email, phoning, or visiting your teacher or also by submitting work.

2. Each section of the course must be submitted at once if completing the course on paper. Otherwise, individual assignments can be submitted directly in Blackboard.

3. Please make sure your work is clear, complete, and clean! Any assignments which are incomplete or messy WILL be returned without a mark. 4. Remember to call or email if you have questions, but to be respectful and clear

when you correspond with your teacher.
