STABILITYHydro-Utilities boasts of its own office building in Harare (Zimbabwe) where the Head Officeis located. The building has 400 sq. m of office space that is home to the Administration andFinancial Departments, Roads & Highways, Structural & Buildings, Civil, Water & EnvironmentDivisions. The firm has grown from strength to strength over the years since its establishmentin 1991 and this is largely due to an efficient and effective management team and support staff. Stability is one of our key strengths and this has been important in the firm securing significantcontracts locally and regionally and maintaining quality and excellence even during times ofpast economic challenges.

Water Treatment PlantEngineering solutions for potable water supply

Water ProjectsPungwe – Mutare Water Supply andPipeline Project – Hydro-Util itiescompleted the civi l design andsupervision of this significant water supplyproject for the City of Mutare. This schemeenabled the withdrawal of 0.7m3/s of rawwater by gravity from Pungwe River via a4.3 km tunnel and 70km pipeline toaugment City of Mutare’s water supplysystem. SKANSKA were appointedPrincipal Contractors.

Matabeleland Zambezi Water SupplyProject – This strategic project involvedthe feasibility and survey studies toabstract raw water from the Zambezi River,treat it and supply Zimbabwe’s secondcity of Bulawayo with clean, portablewater.

Bulawayo Nyamandlovu Water Pipeline -Hydro-Utilities were commissioned tocarry out a detailed Technical evaluationo f t h e p ro p o s e d B u l a w a y o –Nyamandlovu water pipeline for the cityof Bulawayo.

Magunje Water Treatment Works – AsProject Engineers and supervisors, Hydro-Utilities led the design and constructionof a 350m3/ hr water treatment plant toprovide potable water for the town ofMagunje and surrounding areas. ThisAfrican Development Bank funded projectincluded a 6000m3 water storage reservoirand distribution network.

Municipality Housing ProjectsKuwadzana Phase IV Infrastructural Project– A Ministry of Public Construction andNational Housing project that requiredthe infrastructural design and supervisionfor construction of road network, waterand sewage distribution network andstorm water drainage. Hydro-Utilitieswere Project Engineers.

Bulawayo’s Cowdray Park Housing Project– Previously, Cowdray Park’s 1200 housingunits had no sewage disposal systems orat most dilapidated infrastructure. Onthis project Hydro-Utilities provideddesign services for the installation of anew sewage collection and conveyancesystem along with associated sewagetreatment ponds. Today, the housingsuburb is transformed and enjoys a fullyfunctional sewage treatment system.

ROADS, HIGHWAY & BRIDGE PROJECTS

Harare Drive Missing Link HighwayProjectTo complete the ring road around Harare,City of Harare embarked on a project toconstruct the missing 8km road link fromSecond St/ Golden Stairs junction toBorrowdale Road junction. Hydro-Utilitieswere appointed design engineers andproject supervisors. This project is strategicfor Harare in that the dual carriagewayhelped reduce traffic congestion leadinginto the city centre and also boosted trade

and local business between the west andeast regions of Greater Harare. The projectwas commissioned in 2000.

Popoteke River Bridge ProjectA Ministry of Transport funded project thatinvolved constructing a road bridge overthe Popoteke River on the Chatsworth –Gutu Road. Hydro-Utilities were appointeddesign engineers following a successfultechnical and f inancia l proposal .

ANGOLA

Luanda Shopping MallA joint venture initiative where Hydro-Utilitieswere part of a consortium of consultingengineers looking into the feasibility designfor a hotel development and shopping mallin Luanda, Angola.

BOTSWANA

Commercial and Recreational CentreA joint venture initiative where Hydro-Utilitiespartnered a local consulting firm to provideprofessional design and management servicesfor a commercial and recreational centre inThamaga, Botswana.

West End HostipalHigh rise structural design

Medical Building ComplexesSouth Medical, Baines Avenue andChitungwiza Hospitals – Hydro-Utilitiescompleted the civil, structural design andconstruction supervision for both theBaines Avenue and Chitungwiza Hospitals. Both projects were funded by the SouthMedical Group of Hospitals andconstruction was completed in 2003.

Commercial BuildingsBelmont Industrial Park, Bulawayo – ThisZimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority(ZESA) funded project involved thestructural and civil design of a newindustrial park complex for Bulawayo inthe Belmont area. Hydro-Utilities wereappointed Project Engineers.

Gwanda Shopping Mall InfrastructureProject - Hydro-Utilities carried out thecivil, structural design and electrical/mechanical subcontracting for thisNational Social Security Authority (NSSA)funded project. Due to effective projectmanagement and implementation, theproject was completed within schedule.

Beitbridge Shopping Mall Project - Hydro-Utilities were involved in carrying out thecivil, structural, mechanical and electricaldesigns for the client. This was the firstshopping mall constructed for the townof Beitbridge.

Hwange Shopping Mall Project – Thisproject involved the civil and structuraldes ign aspec t . H ydro -Ut i l i t iesimplemented innovative solutions thathelped the contractor save working-timeon site and helped the client save money.

Malcolm House Building Project - Thisproject involved the innovative conversionof an existing block of flats into corporateoffices for the Commercial Bank ofZimbabwe. Hydro-Utilities were ProjectEngineers and supervised constructionon the site until the commissioning stage.

Institutional Building ProjectsGwanda Technical Teachers College –Ministry of Publics Works funded projectwhere we carried out detailed structuraldesigns.

Lupane University – Carried out thedetailed structural designs for all proposedbuildings within the university. Theproject included tender documentpreparation and contract management.

Harare Water Supply II – Kunzwi WaterDevelopment Corporation - Hydro-Utilities engaged in a joint venture withInterconsult, Brian Colquhoun, HughO’Donnell and Partners, Ncube Burrowand Centro Project for the design servicesrequired for construction of a dam anddesign and construction of a watertreatment plant to supply water to Harare,Chitungwiza, Norton and Ruwa. Theproject also involved design of anirrigation scheme.
