Desexing your pet is part of being a responsible animal owner and reduces unwanted litters and stray animals in our community. There are many benefits from desexing pets, both to the pets themselves and their owners. Desexed pets are less likely to spray in and around the house, or be injured while out looking for a mate. They are often more relaxed and affectionate and, generally, live longer. Health benefits - by desexing your pet, you are reducing your pet’s risk of getting cancer or other diseases of the reproductive organs. Females can also suffer from physical and nutritional exhaustion if continually breeding. Pets generally live longer and healthier lives when desexed. Behavioural benefits – desexing can reduce your pet’s roaming, aggression and territorial behaviour such as spraying indoors. Other positive benefits are that they can become more affectionate and better companions. Cost benefits – the cost of registration is substantially reduced for desexed animals. There is no additional food or vet bills for the offspring and no need to find homes for unwanted or unexpected litters of puppies or kittens. Contact your local vet today and make an appointment. BENEFITS OF DESEXING YOUR PET DOGS CAN NOW RUN AND PLAY AT ROMA’S DOG PARK! Over 40 excited dogs and their owners filled Shady’s Lagoon on Sunday, 19 May for the opening of the off-leash dog park. The fun filled morning involved the official opening of the Dog Park, competitions judged by local vets, stalls and a raffle prize with all proceeds going towards the RSPCA. Councillor Puddy Chandler, Portfolio Chair for Community Safety was pleased with the attendance at the opening of the off-leash dog park. “It was great to see so many residents and their four-legged friends of the Maranoa coming to support the Roma Dog Park. It was a project that Council is delighted to provide for our community,” Cr Chandler said. “With $250 raised for the RSPCA from raffle tickets sold on the day, Council thanks all those who donated and everyone for their support at the opening.” Any residents wanting to know more about the dog park can collect a brochure from the dog park, at Council’s Roma Customer Service Centre or visit the website http://www.maranoa.qld.gov.au/responsible-pet-ownership C ome and see C ouncil to receive a $100 cat desexing voucher which must be used before 30 June!

REGISTER YOUR PET NOW – REGISTRATIONS DUE IN JUNE!

Do you love your pet? Register them now with Council to make reuniting a breeze!

Residents should now have received their annual registration renewals for the 2019/20 financial year. Registration renewals are due by 30 June 2019 with the registration period running from 1 July 2019 to 30 June 2020.

Residents are required to register their dogs each year. If your animal is desexed Council offers a significant annual registration discount.

On payment, the renewal notice becomes your registration certificate for your pet. This year’s registration tag is red. Residents will need to renew their registration to receive the appropriate colour tag. Registration tags should be affixed to your animal at all times. If you have a blue, orange or tag of any other colour please remember to remove it.

Payment for registrations can be made at any Council Customer Service Centre or via BPay, phone or mail.

New dog registrations can be completed in person or by contacting Council.

If residents have not yet received a renewal notice, or are needing to update their animals’ details, please contact Council’s Community Safety Team on 1300 007 662.

It is important to note that non-payment of registration renewal by the due date may result in a fine being issued.
