Happy New Year! The events of 2018 are going to bring many new visitors to Kirksville. Below is a list of just a few of the dates for your calendars. January 11 will be the grand opening and ribbon cutting for the new Holiday Inn Express-University Area, 2523 South Franklin, at 5:00 p.m. The public is invited to tour this wonderful new hotel. The Kirksville Rotary Centennial Celebration and Rhonda Vincent concert will be March 10, on Truman campus. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. Kirksville Tourism is partnering with the Kirksville Arts Association to host a Quilters Weekend, April 27-28. Talented quilters will teach how to make projects such as a pillow top, a table runner or a tote bag. The Red, White and Blue Festival will be July 4-7. There will be a parade, fireworks, apple pies, pancakes, a car show, the Uncle Sam run for FLATS, Cemetery Theater, Community Band Concert and much more. The Greater Missouri Leadership Challenge will be returning to Kirksville for a 3-day session on agriculture, September 12-14. This group brings 40 women to Kirksville from all over Missouri. The third annual Midwest Antique Fest and Flea Market is scheduled for September 21-22 in Kirksville. Kirksville Arts Association Red Barn Arts and Crafts Festival will be Saturday, September 29. And Truman Family Day is also September 29. The 8th Annual FLATS Trail Half Marathon is set for October 6. In 2017 this race brought 200 people to compete from 10 states. October 26-28, Kirksville will be the host community for the International Single Reed Festival. This saxophone and clarinet music festival will take place at Truman State University. The planning committee expects over 500 attendees. The Missouri Livestock Symposium will be in Kirksville November 30-December 1 and includes a tradeshow, education sessions, speakers, dinners, and displays.
