Community Foundation in 2019 totaled over $1,124,000. As you continue to support The Tiffin Community Foundation

it is in partnership with you that we build a bright future for Tiffin and Seneca County.

New Funds Opened in 2019

The Bascom Communications Memorial Scholarship Fund was opened in 2019 to honor the memory of a very special employee - Greg i. Greg graduated in 2006 from Seneca East High School and from Terra State with an

associate degree in Computer Science. He was a computer technician for Bascom Telephone Company for about 10 years. This scholarship is awarded annually to

the student who has best demonstrated, in the judgment of the scholarship trust-ees, the same quality of character and hard work that Greg exemplified in his life. That is namely a mature sense of hard work, moral values, and devotion to family and friends. Preference will be given for students pursuing a college degree in In-

formation Technologies. Winning the very first award in 2019 was Garrett McCoy of Hopewell-Loudon High School.

The Cole Ludwig Memorial Scholarship Fund, opened by his family in 2019, has been established in honor and recognition of Cole Ludwig. His family would like to award this scholarship to a student that has demonstrated the same characteristics that Cole exemplified in his life. Cole was a scholar athlete at Tiffin Columbian High School. His fun-loving sense of humor, loyalty, values and devotion to friends and family have left a lasting impression.

The James L. and Alicia D. Dapore Fund was opened in 2019 to provide support to WBGU Public Television.

The Father Francis A. Murd and Romaine W. Murd Fund was opened in 2019 by Father Murd in memory of his dear brother Romaine. This fund will provide support to maintain the Chapel and grounds of Marygrove Immaculate Conception Chapel, in Swanton, Ohio, which was the home parish of the brothers when they were children. It will also support religious education, including student retreats and other spiritual activities at Calvert Catholic Schools of Tiffin, Ohio.

List of Funds and 2019 Contributions and Dedications

In 2003, The Board of Trustees of TCF established an Unrestricted Fund as an endowment to provide for the future of Seneca County. Donors place no restrictions on how these funds are to be used, giving the Foundation the greatest flexibility in making grants to address the emerging needs of the community. Gifts to the Unrestricted Fund enable the Foundation to address a wide range of ever-changing community issues.

The very first grant made from this fund was the 2015 commitment to the Rock Creek Trail. Since that time significant gifts from the Unrestricted Fund include horse-drawn carriage rides at Christmas, lighting and sound equipment for the East Green summer concerts, and food for the Children’s weekend food programs in Seneca County.

If you would like to make an “unrestricted” gift toTCF, use the provided donation envelope and mark “Unrestricted Fund”.

Board of Trustees

Nine people from our community are nominated and elected Trustees to three-year terms. They are unpaid volunteers. Four of them are nominated and elected Officers annually. The Board is responsible for the financial and administrative functions of The Tiffin Community Foundation. The Board reviews and must approve the addition of new component funds of the Foundation, every grant awarded, every distribution, policies and financial documents. They are responsible for carrying out the mission of the foundation and its management. Their decisions help sustain the good works done in our community and provide for programs and opportunities that make our community a great place to live, learn and work.

In 2020, Jane Dell completed her final term on our Board. We are very grateful to Jane and her entire family: husband Paul Burtis, children Jack, Ceci and Sophie who have all served on TCF committees.

Filling Jane’s chair on the Board in 2020 is Neil Jordan.

Appointments are made for fund advisors and grant application evaluators. We are especially grateful for everyone who volunteers their time to discern our many scholarship and grant applications. Having completing terms in the past few years as grant evaluators, we are forever grateful to Merre Phillips, Natalie Eberly, Kent Zellner, Dr. David Drake, Ann Newhard and Mark Somodi!
