The Catholic Community of Billerica consists of three parishes:

St. Andrew Parish, St. Mary Parish, and St. Theresa of Lisieux Parish

These parishes serve the needs of the community in many different ways. We offer preparation for sacraments, reli-

gious education for children and adults, social activities,

assistance to those in difficulties, comfort to the sick and

to those who mourn a loss. If we can be of help to you in

any way please call us. You also may find more infor-mation about our parishes and activities on our web page

What does consubstantial

mean? When we talk about the union of God the Father with God the Son, it is not enough to just say that they are the same. They are both

God … one God in three unique Persons. By asking us to now use the word consubstantial when we pray the Creed (remember, the Creed is a statement of what we believe as Catholics) the Church is reminding us of the importance of professing that the Father and the Son are the exact same substance. This is one of the ways we try to understand the mystery of the Holy Trinity. We will now say that Jesus is consubstantial with the Father when we pray the Creed; it calls you to go deeper in Scripture to try and understand Jesus. The more you read, especially in the Gospels, you'll start to see why this is such an important part of what we believe about Jesus.

Were you wondering what RCIA was all about? RCIA stands for the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults.

It is the process by which adults are gradually initiated into the life and sacraments of the Catholic Church. It is comprised of various steps along the way and each transition is marked by a rite, or a special ceremony within the liturgy. Underlying these are the classes where the individual learns the basics of the Catholic faith.

Inquiry is the first step in the RCIA process. It is a period of introductions and questioning. The individual is introduced to the community and begins to learn and experience the basics of faith.

Rite of Acceptance marks the first transition. In this rite, the individual makes known their desire to be prepared for bap-tism, and they are supported by their family. After this point, the individual is known as a catechumen, a Greek word for the “instructed”.

Catechumenate is the “meat” of the RCIA process. It is marked by a greater learning of the Catholic faith as well as a deep-ening of the individuals own lived faith. During this period, the catechumen attends Mass and then is dismissed to “reflect more deeply upon the word of God”.

Successfully completing this certificate required many Sat-urday trips to Brighton, and many hours of study, reflec-tion and exams.

Please join us congratulating their effort, commitment, and success! Check the website for photos from the event.

This past weekend, we were privileged to receive 4 new members into the RCIA Catechumenate for the Catholic Community of Billerica.

We need Small Group Leaders. In our Middle and High School program, Presenters present content and curriculum for the session, while adult and teen Small Group Leaders lead discus-sion and activities with their group of students (10 or less). This is a great role for a parent or other adult who wants to be a positive influence on our students, but who doesn’t want to pre-

pare or present a session.

Deb Fergus, the Coordinator for Grades 3,4, & 5, invites you to volunteer as a Classroom Aide. Aides help the Catechist (lead teacher) in the classroom, especially during hands-on and interactive activities. If you enjoy working with this age-group, but do not wish to teach, this is a great role for you!

Would you consider being a Homebound Minister?

Circle of Friends, the collaborative homebound ministry of St. Mary, St. Theresa and St. Andrew parishes, will be having our annual gathering on Sunday, June 14 at St.

Mary Parish Hall from 2-4 PM.

All current homebound ministers are invited to attend, as well as parishioners who are interested in learning more about the ministry. The gathering will consist of prayer and a short reflection on Jesus as our caregiver role model. There will be time for table sharing of our experience as a homebound minister and larger group sharing/questions as well. Contact [email protected] or call 978-663-3624.
