Looking at the future of Head Start and making plans for the 2014-2015 program year, I also included my retirement date. After contemplated this life changing decision for more than four years, in November 2014, I informed the Board of Directors that my retirement date would be May 28, 2015. Dur- ing those months the Board of Directors worked diligently to fill my position. This position was advertised on the national, state, local and internal levels. Tara Martin, Education Manager, a CIC, Inc. - HS employee of 24 years, was select to fill the posi- tion of Executive/Head Start Director. I have no doubt that the pr ogram will continue to grow successfully. Good Luck to Mrs. Martin and the entire staff. Joan W. Robbins

ANNUAL REPORT2014-2015

To My Many Friends and Supporters:

It has been a joy-ful 42 years of service working at Com-munity Improvement Council, Inc. in many capacities. My pas-sion was serving the children and families. I had the privilege of working with a terrific Board of Directors, Policy Council and staff. We worked to-gether through many federal, state and local changes in order to keep Danville’s Head Start as one of the top programs in the nation. Head Start administration focused on providing a high quality program operation. Looking at the future of Head Start and making plans for the 2014-2015 program year, I also included my retirement date. After contemplated this life changing decision for more than four years, in November 2014, I informed the Board of Directors that my retirement date would be May 28, 2015. Dur-ing those months the Board of Directors worked diligently to fill my position. This position was advertised on the national, state, local and internal levels. Tara Martin, Education Manager, a CIC, Inc. - HS employee of 24 years, was select to fill the posi-tion of Executive/Head Start Director. Excellence in Children’s Early Language and Lit-eracy

The ExCELL (Excellence in Children’s Early Language and Literacy) Program is designed to bring together families, early childhood educators and community resources with the goal of ensuring that children receive the learning opportunities (at home, school and in the community) necessary to develop early language and literacy skills. All families are invited to attend the “Family Event” on the second Wednesday of each month pro-vided by the ExCELL staff. Each family receives materials and instructions on how to implement the information received with their child/children at home and in the classroom. Parent par-ticipation has been excellent.

Relationships with the families and the staff are ongoing and forever lasting as we strive for excellence in our community on the move towards a vibrant future.

Excellence in Children’s Early Language and Lit-eracy

CIC, Inc. - HS is proud to partner with the Virginia Common-wealth University to bring the ExCELL Program to each family
