MISSISSAUGA: The launch of
the Life Sciences Consortium on
Monday is an important opportu-
nity for the City of Mississauga�s
Economic Development Ofice (EDO) to work closely with busi-
ness leaders from this industry
and to hear their ideas, strategies
and solutions to strengthen Mis-
sissauga�s competitive advantage
in the Life Sciences industry,
Mayor Bonnie Crombie has said.
�In March, we launched the
City’s new ive-year Life Scienc-
es Cluster Strategy,� Mayor Bon-
nie Crombie said. �The Strategy
contains a series of objectives,
with the irst goal calling on us to Create Opportunities for Life
Sciences Partnerships and Lead-
ership,� Mayor Crombie added.
�To achieve and exceed the
goals detailed in our Strategy, we
have created this Consortium of
thought leaders to guide our ac-
tions and ensure that ideas trans-
late into results.�
The Consortium will meet
quarterly throughout the year.
The following executive pro-
fessionals have agreed to serve
as members: Having an oficial strategy in place gives local clus-
ter stakeholders the opportunity
to align their priorities and activi-
ties, Mayor Crombie said, adding
that �which in turn, will help us
be successful in achieving our
strategic vision.�
Mississauga�s Life Sciences
Sector is ranked as the second
largest by employment in Canada,
home to 490 companies employ-
ing over 23,0000 people. Missis-
sauga is one of the few Canadian
municipalities to participate each
year at the Biotechnology Inno-
vation Organization (BIO) Inter-
national Convention - one of the
largest global events for the bio-
technology industry.
Trillium Health Partners oper-
ates two of its three hospitals in
the City including � Credit Valley
Hospital and Mississauga Hospi-
tal. Mississauga is one hour from
Canada�s largest health network.
In 2016, the number of Life Sciences companies grew by
14% as new companies chose Mississauga as the destination to
compete, commercialize and lead
the competition.
Mayor Crombie added �Last
year, we announced that Brazil-
ian-based pharmaceutical giant �
BioLab - chose Mississauga for
its new research and development
centre. I irst met corporate lead-
ers from BioLab in 2015 during an EDO investment mission to
South America. In October, Bio-
Lab opened this new state-of-the-
art facility. It�s a $56 million dol-
lar investment that will create 40 new high-value added jobs.�
Region of Peel � Police are re-
minding the public of the dangers
of warming up your vehicle while
leaving it unattended.
On Friday December 15, 2017 there were a number of warm-up
car thefts reported to Peel Re-
gional Police. This type of car
thefts occurs more often through-
out the Region of Peel during the
cold weather season. It takes less
than a minute for a thief to steal a
vehicle when it is left unattended.
Peel Regional Police recom-
mend that you never leave your
vehicle running and unattended �
even in your driveway.

BRAMPTON: Investigators
from the 22 Division Criminal In-
vestigation Bureau have arrested
three males in relation to an inci-
dent of assault involving weapons
that occurred in Brampton.
On Sunday December 10, 2017, at approximately 10:30 p.m., Peel Regional Police were called to a
plaza in the area of Steeles Avenue
West and McLaughlin Road in the
City of Brampton with regards to
an assault in the parking lot.
A 19 year-old male victim suf-fered minor injuries was beaten
with bats and was treated at a lo-
cal hospital.
A number of bystanders re-
corded the incident and posted the
video on social media. The vid-
eos garnered media attention - ul-
timately assisting police in identi-
fying people involved.
The arrested are all from
Brampton: Gurpreet Singh, a 20 year-old male; Karanbir Singh,
a 22 year-old male and; Harbir Singh, a 22 year-old male.
All three accused are now in
custody and scheduled to appear
in the Ontario Court of Justice,
Brampton, on January 17, 2018.
