Beacon Light Behavioral Health System has part-nered with various school districts in Pennsylva-nia to offer Mental Health treatment in a flexible Community and School-Based Behavioral Health (CSBBH) model. This program is currently offered to students in Clearfield, DuBois, and Warren school districts.
How does it Work?
The Community and School-Based Team comple-ments school-district interventions, such as the district prevention programs, educationally-based emotional and behavioral support programs, and other types of community services.
When a student could use more support, a referralis made to the Team. School personnel will con-tact parents to get permission for students to be seen by the counselor. If permission is given, the MHP will meet with the family and students to get some background information and complete an assessment.
The MHP will provide a diagnosis and work with others to develop a treatment plan. Parents are an active part of the team.
Who is on the Team?
The Mental Health Professional is a licensed clinician who works with families, the school, and other professionals to design a treatment plan that meets the child’s needs. He/She is employed by Beacon Light Behavioral Health System, but will work closely with staff at the child’s school. The MHP will also help develop a plan to deal with a behavioral health crisis. The MHP will provide individual, group, and family therapy as needed, and talk with everyone work-ing with the child. The MHP will also coordinate services across the school and home settings and will supervise the care provided by Behavioral Health Workers.
A Behavioral Health Worker (BHW) has a four-year college degree and works under the direc-
tion of the Mental Health Professional. The BHW works with the child at school and , if necessary, in the home or community. A licensed psychologist or psychiatrist will provide on-going consultation to the CSBBH Team.
The Clinical Model
The clinical model is a 24/7 service, which utilizes these functions:
1. Clinical Interventions (individual, family, and group therapy)
2. Case Management
3. Crisis Services
4. ConsultationServices are private and confidential. All studentsand parents will be asked to sign a release to share
information with the School. Information shared willinclude things like the main goals for sessions or thenumber of sessions needed. There is no charge toparents or students for this service, as it is funded byCommunity Care.
Beacon Light Behavioral Health Systems was founded in the early 1900’s to provide services to children abandoned ororphaned by the early oil and lumber industries. Throughout its history, the agency has provided quality care to youngpeople. As the needs of our society changed, Beacon Light Behavioral Health Systems evolved into a private, not-forprofit social service agency providing quality, professional behavioral health and educational services.
Beacon Light Behavioral Health Systems’ continuum of care includes multiple programs of varying intensity across a broad geographic region. Regardless of the location and type of service accessed, qualified mental health treatment pro-fessionals provide individualized treatment planningand care
