Who’s Who from HR fraternity seen deliberating at the IT HR Roundtable

To discuss and find possible solutions to overcome the challenges, HR

bigwigs from leading organizations like IBM, Tata, Grasim Industries, SAP

Labs, ABC Consultants, Dell, ITC Infotech and CL Infotech gathered at the

2nd IT HR Roundtable organized by UPES in Bengaluru on 14th October

2016.

Mr. Dilpreet Singh, Vice President (HR), India/South Asia, IBM India Pvt. Ltd.

set the tone for the stimulating discussion which was led further by Mr. H.N.

Shrinivas, CEO (Vocational Skill Development), Tata Institute of Social

Science.

Mr. Vanitha Sathyanarayanan, Associate Director, ABC Consultants, Mr.

Thoughtful Deliberation Ignites at the Agro Supply Chain Conference Vice Chancellor FRI University, Dr Savita delivered the inaugural

address to the gathering of academicians, scholars and

agriculturists in a two-day Agro Supply Chain Conference (ASSC-

2016) held in Knowledge Acres.

Organised by Department of Logistics and Supply Chain of UPES,

the Conference witness thought provoking deliberations by Mr.

Nikhil, AGM, Supply Chain Management of Patanjali Ayurved

Limited, Dr. Neelam Grewal, Dean and Prof, PGS Punjab

Agricultural University, Ludhiana and many more.

The two day long conference witnessed 120 research papers

presented from diverse backgrounds in the field of agriculture.

International Conference on Next Generation Computing Technologies

A three day 2nd IEEE International Conference on Next Generation Computing Technologies (NGCT-2016) was

organized on 18th – 20th October. Co-sponsored by “Department of Science & Technology, Government of India”,

“Defence Research & Development Organization, Government of India”, “RCPL” and Institute of Electrical &

Electronics Engineers, USA, the conference concluded in Energy Acres of UPES.

The key speakers were Dr. Michael Coyle, CEO of Avatar Med Vision US, North Carolina, USA ; Dr. P Shekhar,

Chairman & MD of Micro Technologies; Dr. E G Rajan, President of Pentagram Research Centre, Hyderabad and

Scientific Advisor at Helios & Matheson Analytics, USA.

Over 150 technical presentations which were shortlisted from a total 437 submissions from reputed international

and national institutes and organizations were presented during the span of 3 days.

Beyond the Barrel discussion finds success Department of Oil and Gas organised its annual

fest, “Naftanomics 2016 Beyond the Barrel” on

21st - 22nd October. It was 5th celebration of this

student led initiative.

The aspiring theme for this year was “Resilient,

Resourceful and Rising.”

The conference hosted a galaxy of enlightened

and resourceful think tanks and academicians to

deliberate around the topics covering energy

policy makers and energy trading.

Mr. Prashant Agarwal, BSES, Dr. Sanjay Jain,

ONGC, Mr. Nagendra Singh, IOCL, Dr. B.S. Negi,

PNGRB were the key resources among other

deliberators who enlightened gathering with their

thought provoking speech.

Creativity Unlocks at Math-Mania

The first of its kind event, ‘Math Mania’ was

organized by Department of Mathematics to

explore new ways for students to achieve

21st century competencies in mathematics

and engineering.

Aim was to unlock the potential and

encourage great amount of creativity,

currently stifled by the calculus oriented math

curricula.

Here are some highlights of the event which

not only received massive participation, but

also broadened the scope of opportunities

for Mathematics students!

Rishabh, the Only Indian Student to receive Student Fellow at FISITA 2016, South Korea Rishabh Jain, a student of B. Tech. Automotive Design Engineering is awarded Student Fellow at FISITA 2016

World Automotive Congress held on 19th – 23rd September in South Korea.

Rishabh is now among 12 outstanding young student engineers selected across 37 countries.

The fellowship included long week technical and cultural tour to Korean Automotive Industry. This trip was

jointly sponsored by the SAE INDIA and KSAE SAE INDIA (Society of Automotive Engineers India) and KSAE

(Korean Society of Automotive Engineers ) & FISITA.

FISITA is the international federation that brings together the global

automotive mobility sector to share ideas and advance automotive

technological development. FISITA World Automotive Congress is one

of the major events organized by FISITA. It is a biennial congress aims

at facilitating the dialogue between engineers and industry,

governments, academia, and environmental and standards

organization, across all the areas of automotive technology.

Vignesh among Top Twenty at the International Train Design Contest

Vignesh Vasukuttan, a final year M. Des. student is selected among the top

twenty finalists of the International Train Design Contest.

Organized by CRRC Corporation and RVID Society for Railway industrial

Design, the objective of the contest was to collect creative design works and

solutions across the world.

The contest focused on “Design of Future High-speed Train” and Green

Railway Transportation.”

Vignesh got opportunity to travel on a sponsored trip to attend CRRC

Corp - Chinese rolling stock and components conglomerate in China.

CRRC Corp has opened its first joint venture manufacturing plant in India. IT manufactures electrical equipment such as traction motors, as well as

assembling and repairing complete locomotives.

RVID is an industrial and academic social association voluntarily and jointly formed by enterprises, social associations and individual contributors engaged

in industrial design of railway as well as related sectors, entrepreneurs and activists who support and make earnest efforts to industrial design career of

railway at home and abroad, and it is also a non-profit social organization.

M. Des Students among Top 10 finalists in Design Challenge Prateek Arya and Sai Sharan Ramesh, students of M. Des and

B. Des Transportation Design are selected among the ‘Top 10

Finalists’ in the SIAM Automotive Design Challenge 2016.

They would present a scale model along with other deliverable to

the jury members during the final round of SIAM Automotive Styling

and Design Conclave.

The theme of the Challenge is to design an Electric Autonomous

Personal Mobility Vehicle for the year 2030.

The winner of the final round would get a prize of Rs. 1,00,000/- at

the final event to be held in Goa on 9th February 2017.

SIAM ADC is an annual event organised by Society of Indian Automotive Manufacturers (SIAM) where

students from across the country participate and compete with each other on a given theme.

B. Tech. Student talks about ATM machine in Panel Discussion on a TV channel Siddhartha, student B. Tech. with specialization in Electronics,

Instrumentation and Control was featured in a leading Assamese

satellite (television) channel to discuss and present his views on the

issue of recent ATM card breach as a technical expert.

In his interaction he talked about packet tracing software and

dedicated hardware attached to ATM machines and its uses. He

presented his view to bankers and customers to safeguard

themselves.

With him other speakers at the panel discussion were CGM, SBI

(North East), Director, IIE, Chairman, AGVB and CGM, SBI (NE,

Customer Relations).

The interaction was telecast in Assamese language on the channel

DY365 which is a regional channel in Assam.

Counselling Competition, 2016. The team comprises

Hons 4th year) students.

Runner-up at 7th SKVM Nyayavalokan National Trial

Advocacy Competition, 2016. The team comprises

Madhur Azad, Mansi Bansal, Aishwarya and Nivideta

Menon (2nd year) students.

Semi-finalist at the K.L.E Law Society National Trial

Advocacy, 2016. The team comprises Prakhar

Khanna, Samanvi Narang and Kamakshi Gupta

(B.B.A. LL.B Hons 3rd year) students.

Blazing Stars …..The Best Delegation Trophy was earned by 22 member student delegation who participated in the International

Model United Nations in Bhopal on 1st & 2nd October, 2016.

High Commendation Certificates were awarded to Mohit Uppal 2nd year B. Com. LL.B (Hons) student and

Sanchari Goswami, student of 1st year B.A. LL.B (Hons). The Special Mention Certificate was awarded to

Udit Thakran, a 1st year student of B.A. LL.B (Hons).

Deeksha Chugh from1st year B.A. LL.B (Hons) and Priyanka Sadhukhan 1st year B.A. LL.B (Hons) got

Honourable Mention Certificates. Pranjal Pauchori, B.Com LL.B 3rd year student was the Vice Chair of Lok

Sabha Committee and Lovleen Mishra, Nancy Jain and Nikita Tyagi, B.A. LL.B 3rd Year and Saumitra

Shrivastava, B.A. LL.B 3rd Year were among the Core Committee members.

On Sports Front: 4 Gold Medals were won by Virudhika who played the various tournaments held at the

National Sports Competition in National Law University, Bhopal. The phenomenal performance of this law

student grabbed gold medals in 4 sports namely: Footbal, Basket Ball, Table Tennis Mix Doubles and Table

BBA student presents a Research Paper in the Conference Shubh Mehta, student of BBA, Auto Marketing (2nd year) UPES,

presented a paper "Optimization of Biodiesel in Automotive Diesel

Engines" in the 3rd Agro Supply Chain Conference, organized in

Knowledge Acres, UPES on 7th – 8th October 2016.

This paper was co-authored by Dr. Ankur Kumar Rastogi, Program

Faculty Presents Research Paper

A paper titled Use of Mind-Mapping Technique as a ‘Pre-Writing’

Exercise to Impart Writing Skills in Budding Lawyers Based on Tony

Buzan’s Ideology of Mind-map”, co-authored by Dr. Radhika B

Pasricha and Samiksha, faculty UPES was presented at the

Coherence 2016. The paper was also published in the conference

proceeding “Interdisciplinary Integration for Legal Enrichment” under

ISBN : 978-93-85989-98-8.

Another paper co-authored by Dr. Radhika B Pasricha with Ms.

Neha Nagpal was also presented at Coherence 2016. The title of

this paper was Imparting ‘Service Oriented Skills’ to Second Year

UG Law Students through sensitizing them in reference to Client

Communication Quotient Hyderabad.

Coherence 2016 - 2nd International Multidisciplinary Law

Conference was conducted by Symbiosis International University

– Symbiosis Law School Hyderabad.

Incubating Entrepreneurs of UPES, receives appreciation by Hon’ble CM, Dehradun The UCIE team (UPES Center of Innovation and Entrepreneurship) recently

helped Vembryo Start Up Session and Engaging Young India (EYI) in

conducting an interactive session on Startups in the Dehradun region.

The participants showcased their business ideas to experts from Vembryo and

interacted with other stakeholders of entrepreneurial ecosystem of

Uttarakhand.

The conclave was chaired by Honorable Chief Minister Mr. Harish Rawat.

A Cash Prize of Rs. 15000 each was announced to for four teams of UPES

who presented their ideas in the session.

In addition 10 teams of UPES were also named for a Cash prize of INR 11000

each for effectively explaining and displaying their ideas.

Dr. Ajit moderates the Panel Discussion at CII National Start up Conclave in Delhi CII (The Confederation of Indian Industry) conducted two day

National Startup Conclave in Delhi on 20th - 21st September

2016.

Dr. Ajit Kumar Nigam represented UPES Center of

Innovation and Entrepreneurship (UCIE) at the Conclave.

Dr. Nigam moderated a panel discussion of Young

CEOs/Founders of early stage Startups comprising Mr. Sahil

Saini, Chairman and CEO JustBuyLive, Mr. Pranay Gupta,

Cofounder 91springboard, Mr. Arjun Pillai, CEO Profoundis

and Mr. Sahil Goel, Cofounder Kraftly.

In addition, Dr. Nigam deliberated a talk on sectoral

performance of Startups in India.

Hon’ble Governor of Uttar Pradesh Inaugurates the Academic Block of UPES The new academic block of ‘College

of Management & Economic Studies’

of UPES was inaugurated by Hon’ble

Sh. Ram Naik, the Governor of Uttar

Pradesh in the Kandoli Campus on

30th September.

Speaking on this occasion and

applauding the diversified and swift

growth of the University in such a

short period of time, Sh. Naik said

that the sheer growth in enrollment

numbers from 200 to 11,000 in just

thirteen years could well be a national

record.

Selfie” contest on 20th October, 2016, which

exhibited Ad selfies along with creative

taglines for advertising the products that were

assigned to the students.

Listen to your heart while deciding careers says Mr Ashok Kumar, ADGP, Dehradun Addressing a gathering of over 100 students of

UPES at the amphi-theatre of Energy Acres

campus, Mr Ashok Kumar, Additional Director

General of Police, Uttarakhand & Director Vigilance

delivered an inspiring address to the students on

25th October.

He spoke on the topic “Careers in Civil Services”

and said that the chosen career should be close to

one’s heart, one must have an aptitude for it and

must run one’s life for it.

Elaborating on above three points, Mr. Kumar aptly

quoted example of Arjun for Focus, Ekalavya for

dedication and Thomas Edison for perseverance.

Launch of RISE-2017 The College of Engineering Studies launches RISE-2017 welcoming

fresh ideas and new arenas of the students by providing them a

fabulous platform for converting their ideas and dreams into realities.

The specific features associated with RISE-2017 include:

Invitation of proposals in two separate categories, one involving

the submission of new ideas, and second involving the

proposals for development of products (from the ideas

which have already been executed in RISE-2015/RISE-

2016).

The last date for submission of proposals was 25th November’2016

The working duration for students will be from January 2016 –

November 2017.

RISE stands for Research Initiative for Students of Engineering. With a corpus of Rs. 15,00,000/-,

RISE 2015-16 was launched to provide financial and technical support to the innovative ideas of

the students. Around 63 projects were funded grant last year through this initiative.

Project, People and Contract Management Program organises

The Centre for Management Development of UPES successfully

conducted its 3 days management development program titled

“Project People and contract management” from 20th – 22nd October.

Understanding the need of project management and people skills as

the need of the hour for performance of the industry, Department of

LSCM & Operations added another feather to its cap by successfully

organizing this development program.

The purpose of the program was to orient participants to various facets of the project management through various

sessions. Participants were seen from IOCL - Retail, IOCL R&D, HPCL – Retail, UJVNL and PTCUL. Mr. Ajay

UPES Commemorates Women in ‘Computing Machinery’ The Association of Computing Machinery – Women (ACM-

W) in UPES commemorated women in computing at the

National Conference held on 12th October for ACM-W India.

With over 164 active Chapters across the globe, Association

for Computing Machinery-Women supports, celebrates, and

internationally advocates inclusive engagement of women in

all aspects of the computing field. The association also

provides wide range of programs and services to ACM

members towards promoting contributions of technical

women working in the larger global community.

UPES ACM-W emphasizes on technological awareness and

has since its inception been very active in disseminating

information on contemporary technological advancements in

the domain of computing.
