Background The Translational Research Institute (TRI) is a leading Australian innovative medical research, development and translation facility. It is home to a range of cutting edge technologies including interventions to prevent and treat human diseases, and provide diagnosis of early disease. Supported by grants from the Australian and Queensland Governments, situated in the Princess Alexandra Hospital precinct, TRI combines the research intellect and capability of Queensland Health, The University of Queensland, Queensland University of Technology and the Mater Hospital. TRI houses over 1,000 leading researchers and support scientists who interface with clinicians on the hospital campus and at other Brisbane-based hospitals. It has two clinical trial facilities, one based at the PA Hospital and the other at the Centre for Children’s Health Research next to the Children’s Hospital. TRI licenses space to six start-up companies and space in an adjacent building to the biopharmaceutical manufacturer Thermo Fisher. As a Translation Research Institute, TRI is charged with partnering scientific development with the commercial sector to ensure innovations move rapidly to improve patient outcomes and commercial return. To this end, TRI is at the interface of science, medicine and industry. 2. 3. Position Purpose

Reporting to the Communications and Marketing (C&M) Manager, and working closely with the Design & Communications Officer and C&M Assistant, the C&M Coordinator’s role is to help position TRI as a global leader in translational research through implementing a range of engagement activities; improving relationships with shareholders and key stakeholders; and raising the profile of TRI and its achievements.

4. Key Accountabilities

Primary accountabilities include, but are not limited to:

Coordinate TRI’s engagement and fundraising activities

Develop TRI collateral adhering to the corporate identify

Assist with TRI’s international translational conferences

Assist in the delivery of internal and external TRI events across a 12 month calendar

Oversee continuous improvement to TRI’s event management and administration

Develop strong working relationships, and increase interaction, with key stakeholders

Manage TRI’s internal communication

Assist in the delivery of TRI communications via online, digital and multimedia platforms (intranet, internet, social media, digital wall, LCD screens etc.) ensuring content effectively communicates TRI’s strategic priorities, is collaborative and captures attention in a crowded marketplace

General administration and other duties as determined from time to time by the Director.

5. Reporting Relationships

The position reports to the Communications and Marketing Manager as part of a small team.

6. Selection Criteria - Experience, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Qualifications

Experience

At least (4) four years’ experience working in a communications and marketing team

Experience working in implementing integrated marketing campaigns across platforms (online, print, and other multimedia)

Experience in event management

Demonstrated experience of working with diverse stakeholders

Proficient in Microsoft Office, some familiarity with Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign desirable but not necessary

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Demonstrated written skills to write for newsletters, website copy, and brochures

Demonstrated ability to work well within a team

Excellent qualities in negotiation, personal interactions, discretion and emotional intelligence.

Proficient in Microsoft Office, some familiarity with Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign desirable but not necessary

Social media management skills and experience desirable

Qualifications

A degree in communications, marketing or a related area
