Tommy’s is a small charity with big ambitions. Our staff passionately believe that every
baby lost is one too many, and the fact 1 in 4 women will lose a baby during pregnancy
or birth is unacceptable.
That’s why our marketing team work on behaviour-changing campaigns which break
down barriers, driving conversations and public understanding.
Alongside our campaigns, we do this through our brand, our content marketing and our
communications. And this role will work across the whole communications mix,
producing outstanding content, reporting on our success and measuring our impact.
We’re looking for a brilliant Marketing & Communications Officer to join our small,
dynamic and passionate marketing team.
You’ll need to be a self-starter, be meticulous in your attention to detail and be
passionate about all-things digital, as Tommy’s multi-channel content marketing
strategy underpins everything the team does.
From managing our social media channels to creating inspiring reactive
communications content, this is a busy, varied role which will work with colleagues
across the organisation with a high degree of responsibility and autonomy.
Ultimately, you’ll be using your creative communications and marketing skills to
increase the number of supporters engaging with Tommy’s, driving our mission to
halve the number of babies lost during pregnancy or birth by 2030.
Job Purpose:
The key objectives of this role are to:
• Support in the implementation of an integrated marketing and communications
programme to increase public awareness of and engagement with Tommy’s.
• Manage Tommy’s social media channels, producing content for a range of
audiences which drives organisational objectives.
• Support on large-scale marketing campaigns, as part of the project team and with
distinct areas of responsibility.
• Lead on impact reporting across marcomms activity.
• Work as part of broader project teams, incorporating specialists in design,
production, public relations, marketing and fundraising, to generate outstanding
multi-purpose content.
Key tasks:
Social media management
• Manage the Tommy’s social media channels and use website and social media
analytics to assess impact and identify new opportunities.
• Manage supporter engagements and interactions across all channels.
• Support the Communications Manager in driving Tommy’s influencer marketing
strategy.
Content creation
• Generate engaging content for use across the organisation, working closely with
the Communications Manager.
• Support the creation of storytelling content inside the Tommy’s ‘Share your story’
programme.
Direct marketing and individual giving
• Work with the Deputy Marketing Director to develop fundraising marketing
materials to develop and grow new income streams.
Impact measurement and reporting
• Work with the Deputy Marketing Director to manage the external quarterly brand
tracker, and yearly depth reporting.
• Compile quarterly departmental impact reports for use at Senior Management
Team and Trustee level.
• Report on wider communications and marketing activity, including producing post-
campaign reports.
General marcomms activities
• Oversee the creation and production of printed collateral as necessary.
• Work with external agencies and stakeholders to deliver projects, building
excellent relationships.
• Ensure our supporters are communicated with sensitively and efficiently.
• Identify new marketing opportunities.
• Work within the Tommy’s brand guidelines and ensure our brand identity is
maintained at all times and all marcomms activity is on brand and uses the
appropriate tone.
• Anything else which might reasonably be asked, including volunteering at events.
Skills required:
Tommy’s core skills
1. PC Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint so that no further training is
required to do the job.
2. Database skills (preferably Raiser’s Edge)
